Are you a Mac user?

January 31, 2012 - 9:46 PM
44 comments

…then you might have already noticed that during the autumn we have released a new Mac OS application: ‘Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac’ for our Xperia™ smartphones.

This great application lets you seamlessly connect your Xperia™ phone to your Mac computer. With a few clicks, you can fill your Xperia™ smartphone with new media – Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts and Playlists – by syncing with iTunes™.

Bridge for Mac is also designed to help you free up the memory of your Xperia™, by moving your photos and videos to iPhoto™, so that you can capture even more precious moments!

If you are not an iTunes™/iPhoto™ user, you can sync your Xperia™ content with folders on your disk or just simply drag and drop any type of files between your Xperia™ phone and your Mac.

Cool eh? There is more! We have some more exciting news to share with you, especially for those who in the past have raised the question “I’m a Mac user, how can I update my Xperia™ phone using my Mac?”.

We’re happy to announce that the Bridge for Mac will introduce SW update functionality in the coming release 2.0. Those of you who have previously used our Windows software, PC Companion, will recognize the SW update experience in Bridge for Mac: connect, get notified, accept and update!

Great news!  Now what do I have to do, to put my hands on this Bridge for Mac?

You can already today download Bridge for Mac 1.2 from the download section of our support web, www.sonyericsson.com/support, there you will find all the details you might need to know about the application. Once the Bridge for Mac is downloaded and installed it will keep you automatically notified of future releases.

One more thing, don’t hesitate to discuss and share your queries related to Bridge for Mac or any other of our computer applications with the great community on Support Forum, check out the Software Download section.

I am a mac user and I have already downloaded and used the update. Its very stable and an elegant experience for managing the phone content to and from the computer. And by the way I really love the phone. I wanted the best camera/screen I could get for my budget and the xperia arc has delivered beyond my expectations. Sony’s depth of experience with consumer electronics shows in every detail, I fully expect 2012 to be a great year for Sony phones.

Hi Alex, we are all very anxious about getting ICS on our 2011 Xperia phones, but it’s still not time! Martina posted we will have the update until March, early April this year, so we still will have to wait a little bit more! Thanks for your comment!

Sadly, this version still doesn’t include the capability for SW updates, although it’s encouraging to see that someone there is at least thinking about that by mentioning the capability with v. 2.0. I don’t want to buy a copy of Windows and install Boot Camp just to do SW updates for my Experia, and there is already an update out there for my phone now that I cannot install. Any idea when we might see 2.0???

This software does not work on my Mac! I am too disappointed and even if it did, it is useless to me because it doesn’t allow you to update your phone’s software. All you can do is add media from your mac to your phone and back. Why do I still need to find and use a PC to update my phone?!

Great software! I bought an Xperia Ray recently and the discover of Mac software was actually a nice surprise (my previous Android, from another manifacturer, did non have nothing similar, to my knowledge).

I just hope I’ll be able also to update the phone software soon… My phone is waiting to install 4.0.2.A.0.62 !! :)

    Hi,

It’s halfway through February. Do you have any updates regarding ICS? Is is on track for all Xperia handsets? Do you have any video teasers on software and UI improvements? I’m sure many Xperia owners would greatly appreciate any news.

    Hi All,

    Hope everyone is doing good.

Topic is – Xperia Arc body crack problem.
    My City – Chandigarh/India
I do not know where to post or how to convince Sony Ericsson that handset that I have purchased is not good. I had emailed them by visiting the website that “Arc” body cracked itself with in first 30 days, the reply I get that please visit service centre and I went to 2 service centres in the city and they said that this is not under warranty – body can not be replaced free of cost. I did not dropped my handset even once there are no scratches, body started cracking itself from top and left, “top close to censor light” and bottom left near return/back key. I am not sure what to do how to get this fixed, I am very unhappy with Sony Ericsson. Can anyone guide me how and where to report this so that they can listen.

    Thanks

      Dear Varun,

Have you tried emailing / contacting the customer support via the website ? You could also try calling or visiting a bigger service centre in Delhi or Kolkata. Have a look at the following links:

      Hope this helps.

        Hi Christina,

        several things.

        1. Bridge for Mac v2.0 is now downloadable (for at least a week, at “http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/bridge-for-mac/”). I have it installed on my Mac.

        2. In Bridge for Mac, right under the connected mobile phones name it has a new line saying wether there is new software available for the phone connected. But the Info/tool is probably not working:
My phone (Xperia pro, Now w build 4.0.2.A.0.58) tells me that build 4.0.2.A.0.62 is available for me to install (Switzerland, phone bought without provider-contract-> no Lock.
My Sony Bridge for Mac tells me when the phone is connected to the Mac that it runs the latest software.

        3. In the Help-Menu in Bridge for Mac it says to connect the phone to the Mac. This is still only possible in MSC (mass storage mode). In MTP (media Transfer Protocol) my Mac does not find my phone. Could you please clarify this in the Help-Menu!!

        4. As for the requirements (copied from “http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/bridge-for-mac/”):
        Requirements
MacOS version 10.5.8 or later -YES- 10.7.3
1 GHz Intel processor (64 bit processor required for phone software update) -i think YES- where can I check?
        512 MB RAM -YES- 6GB
60 MB hard-disk space for program installation -YES- +-815GB
iTunes 7.0 or later (recommended) -YES- 10.6
iPhoto version 08 or later (recommended) -YES- 7.1.5 (’08 is the year! in Requirements you must name the version)
Java SE 6 required for phone software update -i think YES- where can I check?

–> So whats the matter? Am I doing something wrong or the software?

        5. Can we do Backups of the phone through Bridge for Mac like i PC Companion.

Thanks for all and have a good week

English (inglês): This application is a big shit! And why can not I connect my phone to the USB port of my computer and access it as an HDI (Human Device Interface)? My Sony Xperia S is my first and last cell of the Sony brand. I am a developer and I can not do a deploy an application in this phone! I was just talking to the support because I can not update my phone (xperia active) to android 4.0 icecream sandwich over the bridge for mac.

Support answered: This is a software problem. (=> bridge for mac)

Seems this problem has been known for quite a while now…
don’t you have any interest in keeping mac users as customers?

Honestly I think you should finally release the 3.0 version so mac users can update their phones!

I’ve also read in this thread that people are asking for a Linux version.
Consider getting your programs to work and enhance user friendliness, that’s the only way these days how to keep customers… just saying…

Don’t buy a SONY if you have a Mac.

I’ve had my Xperia S for almost a year now and it’s problems are countless.
Painfully slow to download images, makes the my MacBook run impossibly slow, Bridge for Mac DOES NOT WORK, when advised to drag and drop JPEGS into iPhoto my iPhoto and Aperture both crashed containing 20,000 images, customer service have failed to answer emails, Sony store manager failed to answer two emails, photos have to be downloaded overnight still this is frequently unsuccessful. My Xperia S has the latest Android and my MacBook’s software is fully up to date.
This has been going o for almost a year now. After all of this I feel I’m quite within my rights to ask for a refund or exchange for another SONY product as the Xperia S is not fit for purpose. I have just received a reply from SONY refusing a refund!

What’s more, the iPhone 4s has a better camera. It’s true I have both phones at the moment and I’m gutted. The iPhone consistently produces noticeably better images which was my main reason for buying the SONY Xperia S in the first place. How foolish of me.
Simple, if you’ve got a Mac don’t buy a SONY
(I wonder how long this genuine customer experience will stay on the blog?)
