Introducing two more additions to the Xperia NXT series: Xperia P and Xperia U

February 26, 2012 - 10:33 PM
14 comments

So the excitement continues in Barcelona in Mobile World Congress 2012. We have just finished our press conference and I am very proud to present to you the two amazing phones we announced: Xperia P and Xperia U, two more additions  to the Xperia™ NXT series – next generation smartphones from Sony.

Even as I am not on site in Barcelona, and I am following  every moment what the Xperia blog team at the MWC 2012 are sharing with us, I am very excited to tell you a little more of both smartphones.

Recently, I had the chance to try out the Xperia P (in a beautiful red color) , and was completely blown away its bright screen! This smartphone has WhiteMagic™ display technology from Sony for the first time on a smartphone, and delivers the brightest viewing experience, wherever you are, even in places like the beach or in the snow, where screen visibility can be more complicated. Also, the screen automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen to the surroundings to conserve battery life. And that comes really handy, as we know how much battery life the screen consumes from our smartphones!

Watching movies or videos on the Xperia P is a great experience, because of the amazing bright 4″ Reality Display screen powered by Mobile BRAVIA® Engine for razor-sharp clarity.

As we know that you want to share your videos, photos and music with all your friends and family, and as we have talked before in this blog about the increased connected experience you can have with the Xperia smartphones,  we also announced the  new SmartDock, exclusively for Xperia P, that offers simple connectivity to multiple screens, turning the smartphone into an entertainment hub.  Using a TV remote control, you can easily navigate  on the Xperia P’s content and access your HD videos , the latest movies or TV shows on your big screen.  With USB support in the SmartDock, you can also use your Xperia P as your mobile office, or even to check the latest Facebook posts or watch YouTube videos, directly on your TV.

Check out the key features for Xperia P:

  • 4” Reality Display with powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine.
  • WhiteMagic™ display technology for an ultra-bright and power efficient viewing experience.
  • 1 GHz dual-core processor for super fast performance with 16GB flash storage.
  • 8MP camera with unique fast capture, HD recording and Sony technology to capture 2D and 3D panoramic images.
  • Easy HDMI and DLNA connectivity to share content on any screen.
  • NFC (Near Field Communications) enabled to access a growing range of NFC applications and services as well as Xperia SmartTags.
  • Available in a choice of silver, black and red, all with an aluminium unibody.
  • Launches on Android platform 2.3 (Gingerbread), upgrade to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter of 2012.

We also presented Xperia U, a smartphone that combines powerful Sony entertainment in a more compact size.  For me, smaller smartphones have always been my preferred choice, so I am really looking forward to having an Xperia U. This is the smaller brother of the Xperia NXT series :)

This smartphone provides a great listening experience, and if you are like me and can’t live without music then you will really like it. Xperia U has xLoud™ and Sony 3D surround sound audio technology integrated into the music player, so you can really enjoy your listening experience. And if you like sharing what you are listening, streaming is simple as you can connect to wireless speakers with a simple touch using DNLA.

We have talked about the iconic design the Xperia NXT series share, specially the transparent element below the screen on the smartphones. Well, in the Xperia U this transparent element illuminates to match the colour of photos viewed in the gallery or the album art of music tracks currently playing.  And one of the things I like the most about this phone is that it can also be personalised with exchangeable caps and themes, so it really becomes your own phone.

Check out all the key features for Xperia U here:

  • 3.5” Reality Display powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine.
  • 1 GHz dual-core processor for super fast performance.
  • 5MP camera with unique fast capture, HD recording and Sony technology to capture 2D and 3D panoramic images.
  • Crisp and loud listening with xLoud and 3D surround sound audio technology.
  • Available in a choice of white or black, with pink and yellow exchangeable caps for the base of the smartphone in the box.
  • Launches on Android platform 2.3 (Gingerbread), upgrade to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter of 2012.

Knowing a little more about the design and everything around the Xperia U is always interesting, so here’s a video with the designers, project managers and other people involved on Xperia U talking about the smartphone. I hope you like it!

For more information, don’t forget to visit the press center, and also don’t miss our official Facebook page.

We will have more news and experiences coming your way from Barcelona, so keep checking the blog out so you don’t miss anything! :)

I’m glad to see Sony releasing several Xperia smartphones. However, will there be a Sony Xperia phones capable of using the T-Mobile USA 4G networks?

I had the SE Xperia x10i unlocked for T-Mobile USA, as well as the SE Vivaz Pro and Xperia Neo, all unlocked phone, purchased overseas and used on T-Mobile USA.
Currently, switching to AT&T, Verizon or Sprint are not an option. I’m stuck with T-Mobile USA for a while. I really like my Xperia smartphones, however I would like to purchase a newer model in the very near future that is capable of 4G on T-Mobile USA (HSPA+ technology).

Would the Xperia Ion, S and the upcoming P and U models, unlocked, would able to utilize the HSPA+ T-Mobile 4G network?

Why bother announcing a handset that will be available some time in “the second quarter?” Ridiculous.

Announce the phone when you actually manage to get it in stores.

I’ve been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours Introducing two more additions to the Xperia NXT series: Xperia P and Xperia U — Sony Xperia Product Blog. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my view, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be a lot more useful than ever before.
