Hello everyone – a quick update,

The Sony software upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for our 2011 Xperia smartphones; Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray is progressing as planned and we are continuing the rollout across markets globally.

You can see the released software kits* (customized specific to your operator and handset) on our support community; http://talk.sonymobile.com – please continue to check in if your kit is not yet listed, as it will be updated when new kits become available.

In order to upgrade your 2011 Xperia smartphone you will need to connect to a PC or Mac – please visit http://www.sonymobile.com/update and follow the instructions.

Again, thanks for all your questions, comments and Android 4.0 Xperia reviews – these are all incredibly useful to us, in terms of using your feedback to improve the experience we provide for you – please keep them coming and we will continue to address as many as possible.

Ant.

*The availability and scheduling of this software upgrade and specific models upgradeable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and carrier requirements

Hello I recently upgraded on an arc s and everything became slow and unresponsive so I saw online that turning off your phone and turning it back on every day helps the phones memory. Works well so far.

Its really helpful update , better browsing experience and touch interface bcum more responsive , for all ppl who are having performance issues like slowing down so its quite obvious for ICS as we can c that Xperia 2011 series are not having dual core processors so we hav to compromise wid that.. All in all its nice effort frm sony technical team.. Would also request you ppl to keep us updated ab the troubleshooting for ICS!!

After update to ICS, my Eperia Mini was eaten up my batteri twice as fast.
Then I ran a repair from PC-Companion, an seems to have got a clean install.
          I strongly recommend a repair..

        Hi Vikas,

I agree with you that there is some lag in switching between the apps. However that has been mentioned in the disclosure for upgrade by Sony as we have low RAM in Neo V. So we can’t complaint about that.
However I personally believe that contact UI was better before now the pop up bar for a contact is much broader, it seems awkward. The shortcut size has been reduced, however they still take the same space on the home screen panel. There is some compatibility issue as well with apps, some widgets (media) are taking double space of their size, clock widget does not open up at the touch, the facebook calender does not sync up.
However I think this should be notified to app developers not Sony.

For the goods of ICS on Neo V, I have experienced:
        1. Better battery life.
        2. Less heating while playing games for long time.
        3. Much more customizable options in settings.

I think we should give some more time for app developers and Sony to make our experience better.

Yah you are absolutely right about battery life
And it took much more time to recharge in gb then ics
And it will gives you best performance with easy battery saver app
But still I m concern about bookmarks widget and contact lagging

Kudos for the smooth and hasselfree update. I updated my NEO V and all my settings were restored. The display looks fantastic and the small delay in opening contacts/apps is not too much of a bother, however, I miss my favourite contacts widget from GB – where is it gone and please do bring it back

I lately upgraded my Neo V to Android 4.0 and it has just created problems nothing else. Although the interface is quite good, the Contacts & Call log takes some time to open. Moreover, since last 4 days, I haven’t been able to access Wi-Fi, as it keeps connecting and disconnecting.

        Any suggestion, especially for Wi-Fi.

Sony, do you have anything o say?

some things that i don’t like about the new ICS on my Xperia ray
1.there is no notifications visible on the lock screen (like on the Gingerbread) only on the notification bar
2.there is no Google Instant Upload
3.sometimes the applications take more than 2 seconds to open, thing that I didn’t saw on the Gingerbread

I agree! Why should ray and neo v get update first? Ray is not as good as arc. I know ray is newer than arc but live walkman is newer than ray so your rollout doesnt make sense!

Updated my Xperia Ray to ICS, at first, everything would not work properly. Apps would not run, phone is very laggy. But I did a factory reset and erase my memory card. After doing that, my phone runs smoothly and nicely. But there is one issue, somehow my wifi range is a little bit worse than when it was on Gingerbread. All in all, I’m quite pleased with this update. Thanks Sony for keeping your promise :D

download the “update service” from the sony mobile support pages – then you switch your phone OFF and perform the update through that mechanism.

Sony originally promised that all devices released in 2011 would receive the upgrade (and all devices in 2012 naturally will, as well). Rollouts are still going on over in the nordic countries, and Sony say they continue to process with carriers to get the upgrade out to all of their phones in the various regions and on the various carriers they’re currently accessible. Wipe that sweat off your forehead, folks, and sit tight. [Sony Mobile Blog] [...]

    Hello Anthony,

First of all thanks for the wonderful update and congratulations.
Few things i would like to share with sony:
    1. We cannot uninstall Appextra from the phone at all and should have that option
    2. Phone dialer is laggy it takes almost 3-5 sec to open the dialer plz fix that
    3. really time to update the kernel to 3.0 as i have ssen the ICS running on kernel 3.0 with same hardware specification as Xperia 2011 portfolio has and the phone runs better than it is currently running on 2.6.32.9-pref version
    4. Wifi Direct option is missing as its a feature of ICS 4.0.X fix that in next update so that we get that option as well
    5. please provide us option to move some of the internal app to sd card as it will save more space on phone memory.
    6. when tried to update the inbuilt application such as liveware manger Error Unable to do that it says “An existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed.
    7. Google talk application sometimes says we are offline even though we are not.
8.live wallpaper gets force close all of a sudden many times.
9.screen shot option is complicated and should be in the same way as it was in GB
10.photos when viewed from xperia gallery should provide more detail info for the photos and videos as it shows in galary app.
    11. A normal sound recorder application should be their to record voices or conversation
    12. A file manger application should be their.

Please take it as a valid feedback and response to this will be really appreciated.

    Regards.
