Friday 01/06 4PM CET – LIVE webchat with Sony Mobile Communications on the launches of Xperia™ go & Xperia™ acro S

May 30, 2012 - 5:44 PM
19 comments

Guys,

As you know, today we announced Xperia go and Xperia acro S –  stylish, sleek and durable smartphones with the best of Sony technology.

So, we’d like to invite you to join us LIVE this Friday to discuss these new additions to the Xperia family; the vision, design and process that goes in to creating truly durable smartphones that don’t compromise on style or functionality.

The webchat will be hosted by  a couple of the key guys responsible for bringing these smartphones to market – Calum MacDougall, Director of Xperia Marketing and Sharath Muddaiah, Product Manager.

If you’re not busy Friday afternoon, feel free to pop back for the chat :-)

I hope you can make it.

Ant.

I’d prefer you talk about the international version of Xperia GX.

I spent my hard earned cash to buy Xperia S, which is described as Sony’s 2012 flagship, but in just 3 months time, another better phone, which is Xperia Acro S will be released? This is just rubbish and cheating, not to mention about how nightmarish the yellow spot screen problems of Xperia S and Sony’s customer service have given to the users around the globe.

I think you guys all need to remember that this is not a “new” flagship, and that this phone isn’t really better than the Xperia S. The only differences are the design, waterproof body of the Acro S and the lower memory + SD slot.

They just take the flagship position together. The Xperia S has the NXT design about it with the light strip, the Acro S is waterproof. The Acro S is not better in any way, it runs on the same processor and the same software the Xperia S runs on.

Hey Ambroos – thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment,

We create every Xperia smartphone to suit a person’s individuality, creativity and lifestyle :-)

As you mention, Xperia S has an iconic design (as Calum said, perfect if you want to stand out!) and Xperia acro s comes with the highest levels of durability, whilst not compromising on design or functionality!

This is very unfair to Xperia S users!

I, actually, think is great, but one thing, they (Sony) must iremprove actualization of the software from every smartphone they realease, all Xperia 2011 and 2012 ere being neglected, and now, they still releasing smartphones, makes me wonder if they keep “working” for improvement on every Xperia 2011. I own an Xperia Active, an a Xperia Mini, the Mini came with te famous “overheating” problem, no answer for Sony there despite the thousands of users with the same issue, an the Active, well, the lack of attention to this model is provervial. So, Sony MUST IMPROVE THE COSTUMERS SERVICE AROUND THE WORLD, AND MUST NOT FORGET, THAT THE WEB IS EVERYWHERE, AND THEY CAN NOW HAVE COSTUMERS I CORNERS OF THE WORLD THEY CAN’T EVEN IMAGINE. So please, that answer, from you, “Go to the nearest costumer service centre” is a bit outdated, keep up with the times, adapt to the new circumstances, don’t “mislead” your costumers, be honest, software is what we need, it appears that with every new release of new models, you are “putting a gun” in people’s heads and saying, you want better services? Then buy another phone!, becouse we can not predict the market and everything we do are “testing products”.

When will the sony acro s available in India and also what would be the price??? I cam to know from the reviews that xperia S has a poor battery back up. And also came to know that these phones cannot play the audio other than 2.1 channel..So I have a suggestion to produce smartphones with hd audio playback which will boost the prospects of sony..

    Hi,

In the live chat there was a question whether th xperia go and acro s use dragontrail glass, and the answer from Sharath went like this “Yes, the xperia go uses dragontrail glass” Does this mean that the acro s does not come with dragontrail glass?

Darn I missed the live chat and still have some questions.

First of all, will the Xperia Acro S and the Xperia Go both have the same dimensions and screen sizes? Will these dimensions and sizes be bigger than those of the Xperia Arc?

Second, why does Sony stick to 1,5 Ghz Dual-core processor when Samsung equips it’s Galaxy S III with a 1,4 GHz Quad-core processor?

Third, why is it that brands don’t inform about the limitations of the phone’s memory? I use a lot of system apps that have to be installed in phone memory. I need a lot more than 380 MB to run the following list of apps: Slingplayer, Hotmail, Google Reader, SldeIT Keyboard, WhatsApp, TuneIn Radio Pro, Dropbox, McAfee WaveSecure (or maybe even McAfee Mobile Security), (ING) Mobile Banking, GreenPower Premium, UK & World News, OV-Chip Checker Plus, NS Reisplanner, Buienradar.nl, Superuser, WiFi Manager, TeslaLED, Mini Info (and it’s Pro Key), Calendar Pad, CPU Master Pro, ( (Google) Authenticator, Buienalarm, Application Protect, Nederlandse Kranten, WiFiWidget, WiFi Auto On and BusyBox Pro. If I could root Android 2.3.4 (build 4.0.2.A.0.62) I would install even more technical apps and informative widgets. Further 32 GB is filled with .m4a music files in no time. A model with 32 GB phone memory and 1 or more TB Micro SDHC or XDHC seems essential to me. In advertisement I want to see back how much phone memory the telephone has on board and how much extension memory it can have because I use both of them intensively. I don’t like crappy advertisment that tries to boost enthousiasm for apps I can’t install because of a lack of memory. If I can’t install the essential technical apps and standard informative widgets, then I surely won’t install interesting apps like Color Splash FX, doubleTwist, Instagram, Sketch n Draw, Skype, Smart Battery Monitor, (AnTuTu) Smart Profiles, (Google) Street View, Traffic Monitor, WebMasterLite, Wgenwacht, Wordfeud, Yellowbrick and YouTube. To shield of communication within a professional environment one should also be able to install McAfee Enterpise Mobility Management and corresponding tools. To keep it short, an Android mobile telephone should at least have 1 GB of phone memory to be somewhat functional for a serious user.

So keep up the good work. Improve the technology and take the user serious on a technical terrain. The new generation is well able to differentiate between phone memory and SD-memory. So inform them technically about technical instruments. Don’t follow the weasel-managers that tell you that the user is dumb and doesn’t understand anything. The user has meny search-engines available to learn about a clear technical vocabulary quick. So don’t hide this vocabulary, but use it to make sure people buy products that fit their needs and to make sure products evolve into products that fit these needs. A user can’t use the market economy to get the right technical product if the details of these technical products are kept in the dark.

      Ed:

100% agree that clearer explanation of REAL available memory (left over when all removable bloatware has been uninstalled) should be part of every phone’s tech specs.

Not so sure about your list of “essential apps” but to each his own, and given Sony’s determination to provide a phone for every taste and need, a little more attention to REAL needs would make sense.

Hi, I have an xperia Ray, as stated above it now does not have enough memory to update facebook, which by the which came pre-installed, I have moved all the apps I can to my SD card, but still no joy. I don’t use the virgin apps (Blostware) how can I delete them, or can I upgrade the memory. I have only had the phone for a year and don’t think this is good enough.
