An update and closer look at Xperia™ P TV Dock
Guys – today we’re pleased to bring you an update and tell you a little bit more about our Xperia P TV Dock!
Evolving from our original SmartDock proposition, we’re launching TV Dock to give you a big screen experience from your Xperia P – by connecting to a TV via HDMI you can: view your phone’s picture gallery, watch your personal videos, play mobile games or even access the net in full-size widescreen and of course, it also charges your Xperia P.
For the movie buffs out there, you can also download and enjoy the latest blockbusters from Video Unlimited on the big screen!*
TV Dock also connects wirelessly to a keyboard and mouse using Bluetooth; turning your Xperia P into a mini-PC, where you can quickly scan through your documents and emails.
TV Dock will be available globally from Q3 – we’ll keep you posted with further updates right here on the blog!
Are you looking forward to TV Dock?
*Availability varies by market.

Nice move Sony. This will indeed reduce productions costs. The GX and the LT29i (and fo course future Sony devices like LT30) will use the same dock design sans HDMI connector due to the ability of MHL merging TV out and data signal into one port. But sadly MHL cannot handle TV out and usb data at the same time, which makes this redesigned dock less attractive for Xperia P owners, which has a dedicated HDMI port. In terms of user experience and satisfaction the “original” smart dock would have the been the better choice for Xperia P.

I am not looking forward to the TV Dock because the USB ports are gone
. I have a Logitech wireless mouse and a Logitech wireless keyboard that both rely on the same USB unifying receiver. The wireless range is far better than Bluetooth and I have tested this in an Android Honeycomb tablet and I was able to use both devices fine.Bluetooth mice are very expensive and a Bluetooth keyboard is quite hard to find here in the Philippines.
I must say I am disappointed in this revised dock.
But I hope the SmartDock for the Xperia ION will remain smart. The full-size USB ports were really the highlight in my view. Thanks for the update.

Hey Sre – thanks for your comment,
The ICS rollout for Live with Walkman (and other 2011 Xperia smartphones is well underway). You should receive it within the next few weeks – please keep checking http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/38368, to see when your specific software kit becomes available.
I hope that helps

Hi Anthony,
Is Xperia Ion’s smartdock compatible with Xperia P? the previous Xperia P Smartdock with USB ports were one of the key factors in my purchasing decision. The new TV dock had changed my decision in a negative way. If it is compatible, I may be looking to purchase an Xperia P & Ion’s Smartdock instead.
Reasons:
Bluetooth accessories (keyboard and mice) are in fact very unstable and inconvenient.
Besides, USB drives are still a vastly common storage media. This is to overcome the lack of an SD card slot.
Side note:
A universal smartdock attracts a customer’s to come back for the same brand when future compatible products are released. (PS Vita, Xperia 2013, 2014, camera etc.)
A single featured expandable smartdock that transforms any mobile product into a full fledged pc is a highly potential and cost saving accessory.
Thanks for listening.

Hi Anthony,
One more question.
Is there a plan for a Smartdock (with USB ports) for Xperia Acro S?
Thanks

Hi! Tell and when there is Android 4.0 under Xperia P???
-
By Dimitris Moraitidis
It is already Q4 and no signs of the dock.
Can anyone provide some info on this? -
Dear Anthony,
Its end of December now, still no news? When will it be available for purchase? I’ve started using Spotify on my Xperia P (loving it by the way), but connecting the phone to my receiver through a jack to jack wire is simply not a classy way to go. I assume that when the tv dock becomes available I can simply hook in the receiver with HDMI and play my music in full quality through Spotify? Also, I suppose I’ll have to by a HDMI cable seperately?
Regards,
Jeroen
