On Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Hello everyone,
A quick note – during a Q&A session last week on our Sony Mobile GB Facebook page, a local spokesperson gave information out in error on our Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software development and rollout for 2011 Xperia smartphones.
We are actively investigating Android OS upgrades for all devices, but in the meantime, our Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for Xperia S and 2011 Xperia smartphones continues as planned.
As always, feel free to drop a question below and keep your eyes fixed on the blog, as we’ll be bringing you more on our Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for Xperia P and other 2012 Xperia smartphones over the next couple of weeks.
Ant.

NIce message, bit WHEN SONY REPAIR bug in update from 2.3.4 to 4.0 to XPERIA PRO – then change hundreds people keyboard from QWERTZ to AZERTY??? I wait more then one month, and still no repair !!!!!!!!???
-
That’s true ics upgrade is a joke or well crafted misleading…as it’s already delayed for 6 month and what started to appear is a buggy disaster (epic fail)… What sony doesn’t realize is that we don’t need JB in the middle of 2015… only marketing guys will call it delivery… we need REASONABLE time frame and REASONABLE quality, which means it shouldn’t be worse compared to stock JB (just don’t want to pay for adding bugs)… Ppl are buying sony because it was said you phone will be upgraded i.e. we PAID for future delivery which just DIDN’T happen.

even if you release Jelly Bean for Xperia 2011 by Christmas or later it is still good
this will be not only pleasing your clients but also a marketing image boostgood luck

Yeah when is the roll out for the Xperia P???? At all the specifications for the Xperia P with all the phone companies doesn’t sat upgradable to Android 4.0 ICS anymore!!!! What does that mean???? Laterrrrr

In my case, for my XPERIA ARC, has become more a rollout full of bugs!!!!
I think Sony should consider seriously well the fact of upgrading Xperia2011 to JellyBean, or loosing lots of fans… (becuse if this is their way of supporting… i’m thinking leaving them)“Even a NEXUS S that is hardware less powered is going to have it…” (shame

i have xperia active and i really want update to jelly bean, please give us the update. I love you Sony <3

For sony everything is a joke…….and soon that would lead to some drastic results.

As an Xperia Active owner, I really appreciated the ICS upgrade and your effort to bring the software updates on all the Xperia phones.
You definitely exceeded my expectations, and gained a returning customer. -

Yes the ICS was a Joke to us.. a very bad joke. The Nuxes S was just 1Ghz processor and can run the Jelly Bean? Why cant you set a side the ICS and FOCUS on fixing the so called error so that the problem can be work faster. So were not minding the ICS instead looking forward for the Jelly Beam so that were not expecting the ICS that has many Bugs and totally Lag and Expect Jelly Bean instead.

I have an Xperia Ion LTE international version is by far the top of the range version Xperia, but this model is never mentioned in updates to ICS or Jelly Beam and still running GB
Why have relegated this model preferring minor specifications equipment to upgrade?
I’m pretty disappointed with Sony.

JB is “iterim update” opposed to ICS which was a major update from 2.x – Sony simply has too many phones, to diverse a catalog of low-end “Style” phones and a few high end (Mid-range compared to Samsung or HTC) using different processors and chipsets. They shipped the Ion LTE in mid-summer 2012 with Gingerbread – a huge error that has me beyond annoyed. Appears done just to underwrite sales in the quarter. The phone is a power guzzling, feature-less piece of junk. Nothing advertised via the TV adverts is even available – Playstation Games (required higher OS for Market App than Gingeerbread and 1st has to be offered in Canada) Saying top-notch movies, let alone one still playing in theatres (Newest Spiderman) can be played brazen lie – would have to be on charger, solar connection or gerbil on wheel to do so while on the go. Dock not available for sale as well, at this point Blur-Ray large screen TV taking over not the phone. A 20-30 transit ride home with a text or two, one call kills the battery. Stuck waiting until October/November for an OS that should have shipped ON THE PHONE not months afterwards is insulting for price-point of product (Especially in light of OneX and S3 being touted for JB by this date). Hoping for Jellybean is a bigger farce as no ICS yet. Not holding hope any OS update will resolve battery issues – 58% drain by Bravia.engine out the gate. The processor stutters so default music player stops or actually skips. Pathetic and never, ever putting belief in Sony or it’s products again.
-
IS SONY going to provide any updates for the most unsatisfied customers in the XPERIA family, i.e XPERIA PLAY, its disgusting that SONY did not provide any updates to the XPERIA PLAY phone even though the model was priced very high, (in india) and low end models were provided with ICS update. We would be happy if SONY rolls out jelly bean update for 2011 XPERIA PLAY users in order to keep the TRUST on SONY and its products.
-
-
well, the problem with Play and ICS is that games aren’t compatible with ICS, even the Angry Birds on my Arc S with ICS aren’t smooth as they are on GB, and they crash often.
-
-
Hey I GOT ICS for my Sony Xperia Ion LTE, so what are you talking about no support and crap. How about instead of complaining for no apparent reason. Connect your phone to PC companion and get ICS for your ION LTE.

Forget that buggy ICS, upgrade directly to JB. Don’t put your efforts on a buggy OS.

ICS is not “buggy”. It’s just Sony programmers and the low-end processors, components used on wide variety of phones. Have it running on an HTC EVO 3d (Upgrade came out mid-June unlike Sony who can’t release it on new products shipped in August 2012) and it’s great – really make phone hum. HTC and Samsung use it on their flagship phones as well – a couple of interim updates to squash bugs, unlike Sony again.

System requirements between ICS and JB are not that different, and with the work done to break up UXP from core Android (from the 2.1 -> 2.3 update), giving 2011 series JB shouldnt be that hard, beat ‘em all Sony, give us JB!

Happy on hearing the news, though I am fearful this may turn out to be an HTC like case with DSire. Anyways, I own an Xperia U and I hope that at least we get the JB updates soon and not the LAST like the ICS ones. Also a small advice to SONY and the devs out there, please take time and develop stable updates, fast but unstable updates are not good.

-In my opinion you should continue with what you have joined to – 18 months of update. Remember the Google contract?
-This means that every phone that is not yet 18 months available on the market since its release, should be updated. Many people are sticked with operators for 24 months, at least 18 months of support will reliable your brand in customers eyes.
-Off course if only the phone is capable of a new firmware –> it means that every product that was updated by you to ICS is also capable of jelly bean because jelly seems to be lighter OS version than ICS and should result with more responsive experience (constant home screen launcher buffering in RAM, VSYNC with 60fps enabled, return to GingerBread’s hardware solutions with graphics etc.). I’d like to see how much of RAM it needs, but for sure will be fast and without any lag (at last!).
-Even if now I own Xperia S I think that if not every phone from 2011 line, although Arc S should be upgraded. C’mon, it is a product from end of 2011 and as I know it sold good – it simply deserve your attention. (Can you inform users about your sale? I am really interested in this and hope it is not a secret).
-As that Xperia S users was waiting for ICS a lot, they should receive JB first.
-Also consider upgrading your servers – as you can see in feedback the most complained feature is slowness of Sony updates. Even if I am still going to support you (don’t know for how long) I confirm that Sony suffer for slowness of update in mobile market. The quality is not as bad on the other hand. Also please think about hiring more soft employees (both dev and QA). It should result with better (and faster) user experience.
-Besides, I heard about new Xperia tablet. I don’t know why are you gonna to bundle it with Tegra 3… Really, I expected powerfull quad-core Snapdragon S4 PRO. Also waiting for a smartphone with this processor (rather not gonna to change if not see S4 Pro on the horizon…). I have no idea why Sony still is not able to compete in High End segment with Galaxy S3 and One X
If the next year will be the same at last you will force me to change the manufacturer. -Any news on Sony’s OLED screens in Xperia brand?
-Any news on Xperia Play 2??
- Please explain me 636MB of RAM in Xperia S instead of mentioned 1GB.Regards,
