The sharpest HD smartphone display? Xperia S…
Hey, we have a few cool Xperia S updates to share with you today…
The first Sony smartphone has recently been identified as having the sharpest* HD smartphone display and what’s more, is that it’s coming in a new colour over the next few weeks!
There’s a fair few smartphones on the market today, but the Xperia S display is sharper than-the-rest, with 341.5 PPI (pixels per inch), compared to many others that are around the 329.7 mark.
As if the screen wasn’t eye-catching enough, Xperia S is about to arrive in Dark Silver – so keep your eyes peeled!

I was using Sony Xperia S with the version 4.0.4 of Android, but the time display on the screen was slower than my computer time. After i set it to the correct time, it started to get 2-3 minutes slower after few hours of using it. Does anyone know why this happen?
Thanks

Not to impune the Xperia S, but since the Ion is based on the S’s design and it’s newer and I’m sure Sony wouldn’t make the specs worse for a newer phone so shouldn’t that be the Sony Xperia Ion that gets that special mention? It does, after all, have the same mobile bravia engine and it’s screen resolution is about 1260 by 720… (Not exact screen specs, just typing from memory.)
That would make more sense wouldn’t it Ant, or am I mistaken here?

Hey Fast, thanks for stopping by,
Nice feedback; we create every Xperia smartphone to suit your personality, individuality and creativity – the first Sony smartphone in the NXT series, Xperia S has an iconic design, perfect if you want to stand out. Xperia ion is our first LTE smartphone, available exclusively in the US, with a sweet 4.6″ HD screen.
You’re right, the specs are pretty similar – I love them equally, and you can be sure to catch all the latest product news right here on the blog

No problem and thanks for the reply/information Ant. Apparently I am mistaken: The Ion’s ppi is 323 while the S’s point is 342. (rounded up) I don’t like that very much…. :/ Common sense dictates that a newer phone should have either equal or better specs compared to older models of the same type, not lesser specifications. The Ion is the newest Sony phone, why in the world would the company make the ppi ‘less’ than an older model? You’re supposed to ‘improve’ upon things, not ‘worsen’ or make specifications less than other phones. :/
That being said, I don’t appreciate in the slightest that was done, paid good money for the newest Sony phone out there and got lesser specs than an older phone…
I do realize that there’s not ‘that’s much of a difference between the two ppi’s and not to be a complainer but don’t you think that Sony would want their ‘newest’ phone to shine in the limelight, not an older model?Just some “food for thought.”
“FasT”
P.S. My apologies to all for my ranting on and on about a small thing such as a 20 or so point difference but you come to expect the best when you buy the ‘latest.’

Fast, the screens are the same quality in Xperia S and Xperia Ion. The differen ppi value you are talking about is caused only by screen size. It is normal that having the same resolution, which means the same number of pixels, you’ve got higher density (ppi) on the smaller screen, the pixels are simply placed closer to each other because they have smaller space. The summary is: the only way to achieve higher density on larger screen is to increase resolution of a screen. While comparing the same resolution, the bigger screen you have, the smaller ppi you receive. But don’t be afraid. The difference is so small that it is impossible to be noticed by human eye. We are not able to see a single pixel (they are bigger in plasma TV than in LCD technology = you should watch plasma TV a bit more far away than LCD) so the small density differences are not worth to mention. It is rather marketing. Remember that Sony put a screen with the higher possibly resolution available on the matket now, the 1080p small displays for smartphones are not yet available in wide range, even Samsung Galaxy S3 is shipped with 720p screen. I hope I could answer your technical question as simple as I can and that you will enjoy your wonderfull phone and screen. Regards, Marcin.

Hello Ant, is there any possibility of a new flagship like Xperia S but with real physical buttons? I really don’t like the lack of responsivness of the “dot” buttons in my current Xperia S
It is annoying. I miss my Arc S buttons -

I liked Xperia S very much and i am proud to say that i am one of the first user to own this in my region (Qatar) as i got it in March 6th, where others got it only on May. But unavailability of Xperia s Accessories like Protection covers, headset etc. making some bad impression of Sony where as Samsung provided cases for Galaxy S3 before its launching. Sony need to be more care full in its marketing to get the majority of customers and need to provide best customer support when it arises. i was giving an extra care for Xperia S from the begining and especially when taking it for out-door use as it is an expensive mobile and fears damage if it falls down due to lack of protection case. Cases are available in internet but not in local stores and i dont want to order it online as it is risky . But now Sony launched Acro S in place of Xperia S with some added features and as a stronger one, this make us so frustrated as the first Sony FLAGSHIP is NOT THE BEST ONE IN THE MARKET EVEN BEFORE IT COMPLETES 6 MONTHS. Sony may appreciate that we( the first customers of Xperia S) bought the mobile because of the belief in Sony Products and not after the reading the reviews and comparison provided by websites. Now i want to upgrade or exchange my Xperia S to ACRO S but there is no option available in the market. we already invested good amount for Xperia S and investing same amount or more again for Acro S is not a practical one and felt disappointment for the impatience to not wait 6 months for a better mobile than the hyped FLAGSHIP. It is sure that i might bought Acro S first, if i dont have Xperia S. It is good for Sony that to run a campaign for cheated xperia S users like us to exchange with Acro S and stop the production of Xperia S as people who knows about Acro S Will buy only Acro S Not the Xperia S.
