Scooping another EISA Award: Xperia™ P is ‘European Green Smart Phone 2012-2013’

August 15, 2012 - 11:34 AM
38 comments

There’s a fair few smiles in the office this morning, as we’ve discovered Xperia P has been named European Green Smart Phone 2012-2013 by EISA!

Last year we were proud to pickup awards for both Xperia arc and Xperia mini, and now Xperia P has also been recognised for its range of green innovations.

EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) is an industry body representing 50 tech-focused magazines from 19 countries – here’s what they had to say about Xperia P:

“The smart phone market is developing rapidly as models come packed with ever-increasing functionality. Unfortunately, the trend towards the use of bigger screens and embedded batteries can make recycling harder. The Sony Xperia P outperforms the competition in terms of energy performance while making efficient use of materials of environmental concern, such as precious metals and has a low copper content. With the Xperia P, Sony successfully follows the performance of last year’s winner, its Xperia Mini.”

Xperia P is the world’s first smartphone to use Sony’s WhiteMagic technology to boost screen brightness, yet in power save mode, WhiteMagic reduces backlight power consumption by up to 50%. Don’t take it from us though; Xperia P came top of the smartphone screen class back in May, when we commissioned an independent testing lab to put it through its paces against other latest smartphones!

We’re continuing our efforts to make our entire Xperia smartphone portfolio cleaner and greener. Simple things can have a huge impact; using smaller, lighter packaging not only costs less to produce but also reduces the environmental impact in terms of transportation and preserving natural resources. Paper instruction manuals have also become a thing of the past and our energy-efficient chargers limit max power consumption to an efficient 30mW in stand-by mode :-)

Hi Anthony,
Why does make Sony such a secret about ICS for Xperia P ?? Statesecrets are not so much protected like the ICS-Secret for Xperia P ?

Why does SONY protect a secret that all their competitors have month ago. U hadn´t save a date like a Statesecret, ur comprtitors will not copy ur Software the have all updatet to ICS month ago ;-)

I don´t understand the Upgrade mentality from Sony, what Sony want to achieve by that ??

WHEN DOES ICS COME ? DOES IT COME AT ALL ??

Mr. Anthony or other Xperia users, I would like to ask you:

    1. Will Gameboid, Super Gnes or Fpse emulator will work fine on Xperia mini if its OS is upgraded to Android 4.0?
    2. Recently, the game of Immortal Dusk force close itself sometimes. Does it because of lack of RAM (RAM is used too much) or something else? Other emulator game had ever the same problem too.

    Thank you.

i’m waiting 37 days for Sony to bring back my repaired xperia. why ?

    hi !

I’m Michael, From France , i’m an IT responsable person (in a 250 employees firm) , also an active blogger and social-internet people and i am very desapointed about sony product, sony services after sale, sony communication.

I chose to purchase my xperia smartphone on sony online store to have a better price than anywhere, so i did. and i was shipped quickly (5 days)

it was my first big mistake.

i chose sony product to get quality and respect and customers’ care. it was my second big mistake.

    Why ?

Because my smartphone was out of order after less on month on my desk only ! (3h used by day, no fall, no shock, no over-use, no sub-use)

Because i’m still waiting back my repaired product after…..37 days ! yes you read it right : 37 days !

My device would have spent more time in sony hands than in mine since i bought it ! Don’t you see the ridiculous mean of my case now ?

what is wrong with sony ?

Also i asked for an express exchange product (whatever my personal data on previous phone, i already convince i will lose it ), i just needed a smartphone for my work and personal life.

My ticket is still un-reply (more than 7 days)

if i had purchased a Samsung model, i will have a 48h exchange product (thanks samsung warranty and quality services)

if i had purchased my product on amazon (off course more expensive) (thanks to amazon refunds or send back services)

if i had purchased a HTC device (like my past years), maybe it would never be out of order after a little month on my desk !

what is wrong with sony ?

    why 37 days ?

why no express exchange via UPS or something liek that ?

why no refunds to make me bought a new one in a local shop ?

    why such a quick out-of-order on an 300€ product value (high-end product ! )

why my tickets still un reply ?

why when i’m called on phone ( four times already) , they sais they will take care of me……and no response.

Bad quality sony product or bad quality service or what ?

of course i already send back my invoice information (funnny i have to do it myself cause i bought it on sony onleine)

of course i already send back my document of taking charge (local shop sponsored and supported by sony)

of course i already check in the local shop that my product was really sent at sony’s place.

of course i already check my https://extranet.sbe-online.com status

Now i’m praying for my VAIO notebook (bought online too) do not fall in out-of-order state ! i can’t imagine how long i will be waiting if my vaio will break under warranty.

I really don’t know what will be the issue (happy end or drama end) of my case but one thing is sure : around me, on social network, in my familly, in all my relational (personal, affair, work, business, community) i will not recommend ever sony product.

I hope sony will make change my mind, specially cause i like design of its products and i would have be interested in sony tablet but what will be the after-sale service….i’m scared now. if i bought a sony tablet, will it be break in a few days, will i have to wait 40 days to repair….

Ball is in sony field, i really can’t do anything else.

All said and done, I am of the opinion that Sony needs to show some change in the basic style of each phone model. If you go to see almost all the phones in the Xperia series look strikingly similar, leaving the Neo. The change in looks is very important to show the variety available.
