Update on Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 software upgrade for 2012 Xperia™ smartphones
Hello everyone,
Today, we’re starting our Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 software upgrade for Xperia P, with the rollout continuing over the next few weeks in markets globally.
Some of the cool features and functionality you can look forward to include:
- New ways to experience your media with new media applications – “WALKMAN”, “Album” and “Movies”
- Extended standby mode, increasing standby time by up to four times (depending on user-profile and data consumption)
- Lock screen with improved functionality
- Resizable widgets for improved personalization
- Improved control of your mobile data consumption
- Recent Apps button for a clear overview of your applications
All Xperia P users will get a notification when the upgrade is ready, but direct availability in the phone may vary across different markets and carriers.
It’s worth noting that in some cases, the software package may only be accessible via PC Companion or Bridge for Mac, instead of directly in the phone.

Ah, so we’ll be seeing ICS on Xperia U in february 2013 then? Not to mention Jelly Bean wich, at this rate, will be released when other phones have Android 6.5 or something.

hi m using XPERIA U and i m a big fan of Sony , m from India and i want ice cream sandwich update as soon as possible on my phone , because its been 3 months now m using old gingerbread version and i m bored of it …. please improve battery performance (user time ) not standby like XPERIA P , and improve the quality of camera , music with headphones and very importantly loudspeaker which is very low , heat up issue , slow browsing and make it a lil more bright for sunlight if possible …pls pls pls i m a very loyal customer of SONY and i love SONY… pls roll out ice cream sandwich as soon as possible for INDIA thank you

I think the sony xperia U delivers the best 3D surround sound Music via its earphones. You can increase the battery life by power saver options and decrease the animations in the settings>display>animation>some animations. Try to stop applications running unnecessarily by force stopping it in the settings>applications>running applications.

Sony promisses a lot but doesn’t deliver.. it’s a way yo keep customers satisfied,.. for a short while and when they know that they are ******** they’ll buy a different brand the next time.. despite the good quality of the Sony phone.. So Sony, quit playing games with us,.your customer,.

there is some pro in update of android 4.0 …. i have updated my sony xperia u 2.3 to ice cream sandwich but there are many pro in this software LED issue and i wont change even ringtone or sms notification tone …………….. Plzzzz sort it out
or plz tell me how can i retrieve back to android 2.3?????

no u cannot do that …if u will upgrade it will never com again GB u have 2 suffer now with ICS …
and help me more about ntot upgrading im also using GB … i have thought 2 upgrade it many time bt i m nt sure on ICS there will be bugs …

Android 4.0 is updated in my Xperia U mobile. The theme is good and nice. But facing little bug in the settings area and opening some applications.
Hope there will be some updation after fixing the issues.

Even HTC’s entry level smartphones come with ICS preinstalled.
You can see the XDA developers sote, they have made Jelly bean ROMS for much much much older smartphones like nexus s………still we are waiting for ICS to come.
And no signs of Jellybean.Very disappointing

I swear. seem like made a mistake in buying sola. the website (in India) i bought from said upgradable to ICS. they didnt tell me that the upgrade will come with its time to buy a new phone.

I ended up buying Xperia Sola for its looks and specs on paper (off course commitment from Sony for ICS upgrade). I am not able to see any value from Sony in this phone. They get Android from somebody, SoC from somebody else, and other components and dump it one us. I don’t see any application or feature added by Sony worth mentioning. And there are lot of clutter (Addware, trialware, …) came with the box that requires lot of efforts to cleanup. Just to compare, My other smart phone is from Nokia, and I am impressed with their efforts to add value even after they have sold their phone.

Do agree, Sony is very poor in giving updates, should they not start working on releasing JB rather then wasting time on ICS? Anyways ICS is not a big hit, I suppose.
@Anthony, is JB update for Xperia S on the roadmap or we have to settle with ICS?

If we see other brand mobiles we get ICS pre installed… Y is sony late in releasing the update… that too it first released ICS for s and now p and next in the way sola and U. When they have released sola ,p and u on the same day… By the time sony update its xperia phones other brand phones can up with pre installed jelly bean…
We are waiting for ICS… please release it ASAP…

I just buy a Xperia U because i saw that it will be updated to ICS in August, looking back in the history of the upgrades i´m disapointed, it looks like i will have to wait until 2013 to just have ICS forgett about JB that will come maybe in 2015, i´m a new user of Sony Phones but i tink this will be my first and last device with this company.

Samsung has announced the JB upgradable handsets.
We are still waiting for ICS!!
at this rate we will get JB when android 10.1 will get announced ??
oops i forgot there might not be JB at all as sony will say it will take us more time by that time we might just simply switch to samsung or other brands and spare ourselves of the wait … simple as that

Sony is far behind the other smartphone companies as far as software is concerned.
While other devices has already rolled out to Jellybean, we are still stuck with GB and waiting for ICS. -

In May 2011 i buayt Sony Ericsson Xperia arc and still have 2.3.4 way??? Sony sand me a message that an update going to come in April 2012 than may 2012 and than Jun, July, Augustus and I still don’t have it….. Sony you need very soon to come with better service athorway you going to loss your own kostomers…

Hi,
I buyed a phone Sony Neo In UK on octomber 2011 and using in INDIA . Sony promised that ICS update for all 2011 xperia series on 2012 may last week to july, they stoped updating SI numbers on july 7th.Upto now my SI number 1247-1248 and many other SI numbers did not get ICS, and also sony moderators not responding to comments which are posted in corresponding blogs.
Interestingly Now sony announces that ICS for 2012 Xperia Series. What a funny ……
Other Mobile companies are updated their customer with ICS and readying for updating their customers with Jelly Bean.
What a poor updating Sony.. I pity u ….

When are they gonna say or set the date for the xperia u ics update, really, we are very tired of waiting, and over all, waiting whitout not knowing when we stop waiting, so please, first of all, say already the date aprox. when xperia u owners get the ics update, because at this point I get sick everytime I read: in third quarter.
