Smart Connect launches on Google play!

September 10, 2012 - 9:57 AM

Formerly known as LiveWare Manager, new Smart Connect app has launched on Google play!

Smart Connect, lets you control and customize the way Smart Accessories interact with your phone. It’s an intuitive, little piece of Sony magic…

For example, simply connect your Smart Headset (or other headset) to an Xperia smartphone to enjoy an optimized listening experience in seconds – Walkman opens, the volume is set the way you like it and your favorite music is locked, loaded and ready to play.

It saves you time and makes life easier – that’s what we all want, right?

Connecting a different device to your Xperia smartphone promises a new, instant and personalized experience…

  • Touch an Xperia SmartTag to initiate actions in the phone, such as GPS, Bluetooth™, maps and navigation in the car, or alarm on and Wi-Fi off at night.
  • Organize your SmartWatch with all the apps and plug-ins you want. Decide how you want them to interact with your smartphone.
  • Decide what actions you want to trigger every time you connect to a HD TV via TV Dock.

The app also conditions your smartphone to react to new environments and connections – for instance, it will initiate certain actions depending on the time of day. It will also recognize when the handset connects to a peripheral device such as a charger.

If that isn’t enough, this innovative app will also recommend and help you find new apps for your Smart Accessories!

It’s worth noting that Smart Connect requires Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

My friends at Developer World have taken a closer look at some of the new functionality and as usual, we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the updates and news!

Happy Monday everyone :-)

Dear Team, thanks for the app, I really rate and appreciate. I have two bugs though running the app on my Xperia S with ICS. GPS settings not available, they don’t appear in the list of items that can be selected for actions. The second is with volume settings. With the new app no matter which tag I read and what settings I assign, all (three) volume settings get set to maximum. Very annoying. I’ve tried to remove and reinstall, deleted all app data and reapplied all my settings… Nothing seems to solve the above two problems. Thanks.

“It’€™s worth noting that Smart Connect requires Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich”

So basically you’re telling us Sony released an app that will not work on it’s 2012 devices Xperia U, Go and Sola because Sony refuses to release the ICS firmware that has been certified a couple of weeks ago.

Logic is obviously not in the dictionary at Sony Mobile

I’m pretty proud owner of your new Xperia device (Xperia S) and I also bought four smart tags which were very useful for me till now. After the update of “Smart connect” app I found out I am no longer able to use my tags through “Xperia™ SmartTags” app. There is no way to set more than one app to be launched after the smart tag is connected. I had 6 or 7 apps set to be launched through “Xperia™ SmartTags” app so all my colorful buttons are totally useless for me right now. I am begging for update of “Smart connect” ASAP so I can use my tags again…

Hey Jakub, Amador – thanks for stopping by,

When updating to Smart Connect from Google Play, the original SmartTags app is not used anymore; instead, all your Smart Accessories are handled by Smart Connect.

After updating to the Smart Connect app you will get any of the two messages below:

      1. SmartTags are now handled by the Smart Connect application.
The SmartTags application is no longer used. Any settings done in the SmartTags application have to be redone in the Smart Connect application. To save memory, uninstall the SmartTags application.*

      2. NFC SmartTag identified.
SmartTags are now handled by the Smart Connect application. The SmartTags application is no longer used. Any settings done in the SmartTags application have to be redone in the Smart Connect application.

*To uninstall the original SmartTags app (relevant for message 1 above) follow these steps:

      1. Enter Settings on Desktop
      2. Enter Apps
      3. In the Downloaded list select Xperia™ SmartTags
      4. Select Uninstall
      5. Select OK

      I hope that’s all useful :-)

      Ant.

Smart Connect is just a dumb connect…. I USED to be able to say start Smart AudioBook Player and then it started playing my current audiobook, now when I say start that app and say play song, it starts Smart AudioBook Player BUT then it starts to play some mp3 file it finds, it plays this from within Smart Connect instead!!! Hence no audiobook starts playing… thanks… great work!

    1. Smart Connect – less options to set up in comparison to the last version.
    2. After second tap with Smart Tag it should swith off current profile!
    3. A notify with information about current profile should be in notification bar still no matter i clear all notification with x button or not! If I do that, I don’t know what profile is on at the moment!

Great idea to use also charger, speakers and other stuff to swith profiles.

Please Sony – make Smart Connect better !!
