Quote: 'It’s a fantastic start to what we think will be an incredibly exciting year'.
Why have any awards been bestowed on a phone that has not yet been released to for sale? Surely some months should go by before awards are given so that products like the Xperia Z can be evaluated in real world conditions to see if they work properly or are full of bugs and problems like other Sony phones?
The real start to Sony Mobile's year in 2013 began with the global launch a few weeks ago of the Xperia V. Since then hundreds of owners of that high-end 4.3" smartphone have had nothing but trouble with WiFi and alarm malfuntions, sudden catastrophic battery drainage and freezing of the phone. You can read the dozen pages of reported problems and total lack of product support or even communication from Sony Mobile with those unhappy customers on the following link. It does not make happy reading!

That is the real story of Sony Mobile, and the same sort of problems are being experienced by owners of other phones too. Any phone nearing a year old is no longer provided with updates either. Sony just forgets about its customers once it has their money. It does not provide support and solutions for frequent problems on its phones when they happen, which seems to be all the time.
Because of this disasterous approach to its customers' service and satisfaction Sony Mobile deserves to fail. I say that sadly because the products do look great on paper, although Samsung's S4 will launch soon with a 2GHz processor and a similar 5 inch screen and others similar products are appearing now too.
The only thing that should matter is how phones operate or fail to operate properly as intended and as sold in the real world. For this reason people would be well advised to delay acquiring the Xperia Z too early and to wait and check online on Sony's blog pages and other independent sites for some months after launch to see if the same sort of harware and software problems develop in the Z as they have done on other Sony phones.
You have been warned!!!

@ James Bluem
Well said. Sony's entire policy seems to be one of marketing and sales, or 'spin'.
It seems most Sony smartphones experience problems. The new Xperia V is having terrible problems with freezing, sudden catastrophic battery drainage, alarm clock malfunction and WiFi problems ever since launch in December, 2012. No word on a fix or indeed anything at all from Sony, apart from an acknowledgement 2 weeks ago to say they are looking into it.
I commiserate with you. Could I trust a Sony phone? Would I take the chance? Would I rely on their commitment to customer service and satisfaction? Frankly I expect the new Z to experience the same problems on release. As for the various mobile media, they are useless. If they were any good at their jobs they would know about these issues and publish them to warn potential customers. Absolutely disgraceful Sony.
