Designing Xperia Z and Xperia Tablet Z – LIVE webchat 27/2 14:00 CET from #MWC13
Hello everyone,
With Xperia Z now on sale in global markets and Xperia Tablet Z set for global launch, we’d like to invite you to join us for a webchat with Sony designers – LIVE from the Sony stand at Mobile World Congress.
Xperia Z and Xperia Tablet Z share the same Omnibalance design language across hardware and user interface design – combining a slim form factor with a focus on balance and symmetry from all sides..
We’ll be joined by a few of the key guys behind the creation, development and design strategy of our new products -
- Tom Waldner, Head of Creative Product Design
- David de Léon, Interaction Director
- Marten Jonsson, Director of Human Interface Design
They’ve been sharing insight into our Sony design philosophy with booth-goers here at MWC, so they’ll be recapping some of those discussions along with background on the aesthetic crossover between Xperia Z and Xperia Tablet Z; creative direction and inspiration and maybe a nugget or two on the future
Hope you can make it!

You did not pick my 2nd question in time, so I drop it there:
“The physical camera button haven’t been used on the Xperia Z in order to not unbalanced the design right? Don’t you think usability is even more important?” -

Hey, I didn’t make it in time to get my question through, I just had one little question for David/Marten.
In the Xperia Z the background of the notification bar and the soft keys has changed from the usual black to a dark grey. What is the idea behind this decision and is this something that will remain this way?
Thanks!
(PS: At IFA last year I had the chance to had a brief chat with David and Tom, it was a pleasure meating them!)

A agree. The color should be black – not gray! sony should change it or at least add possibility to choose.

What was the purpose to remove physical camera button and avoid oleophobic screen? If there is not such one there should be cloth because of the glass…
