SmartWatch – new Sony software update, 200 apps and more!

Hello everyone,

A new software update for SmartWatch is now available, bringing cool new features, tweaks and improvements…

Here’s a look at what’s included:

  • Six new watch faces, something for everyone :) – retro, wacky, contemporary…  each with different functionality. Wake the watch face up with a double tap, a ‘my gesture’ movement detection or by moving the watch towards you with a twist of the wrist (Motion Clock face). Check out the screenshots below!
  • Notification previews – see snippets of your messages, tweets and wall posts, when notified of new interactions
  • Smoother search – with around 200 SmartWatch apps (and growing!), we’ve added Categorised sorting/search to make it easier to find what you want
  • More intuitive, aligned interface across SmartWatch and Smart Connect, and we’ve also added a QR Code to make connection even simpler if you have a non-Sony Android phone
  • Improved battery level indication       

 

The update is available on Google play, and current SmartWatch users will receive a notification in their Android smartphone when it’s ready.

To celebrate the update and functionality, we’re also rolling out some new product features; an improved charging cable and all new wristbands – Sony’s turquoise and purple, along with fresh designs from our partners.

    1. Double tap no longer works reliably. This is a REAL nuisance. It used to work EVERY TIME. Now have to use the Power button to get the time to display. PLEADE FIX THIS URGENTLY.
    2. Sort Widgets/Applications not working properly. Can only drag an app/widget to the top of the list. Used to be able to drag it to any position. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.
    3. New watch faces are a great improvement, BUT the Digits display option could have a lot more information on the screen, such as the FULL date including the day of the week, and battery status for Watch AND Phone.
    4. PLEASE give us the option for ANY face to include the date WITH the month and day of week.There would seem to be no reason why this could not be an extra tickbox.
    5. Even better, also give us the option to select any colour for any face.

    Can you be more specific about this new charging cable? Will it be included with new boxes of the smartwatch, or is it sold separately, and where is it available?

    Yes, we need more info about the new charging cable, the existing charging contacts is really bad.

    Overall, it’s nice to see Sony feeling confident enough about the smartwatch product that they put resources to continue updating it.

    If a 3rd gen smartwatch is on the drawing board, is it possible to put a black solar panel underneath a transparent OLED layer to help with the battery budget?

    Another idea I had posted before is to have NFC reader in the smartwatch, which I still think is a good idea.

    2.-No se sabe cuando esta bien cargado o con poca carga
    3.-El cable actual no es confiable
    4.-La bateria debe durar mucho mas y reflejar claramente su nivel de carga
    5.-La idea es buena pero mejoren todo esto.

    My SmartWatch, is not vibrating notifications. The first configuration worked perfectly, but now any notification, it does not vibrate. Only appears on the screen. I’m using with Galaxy SIII
    Can someone help me?

    It’s not able to connect Xperia GO (ST27a) ICS with Bluetooth that already installed the Smart Connect (LiveWare) and Smart Watch. I’m so unhappy because of my new smartphone or Smart watch ? :-(

    Had my Smart watch for over 6 months and all worked absolutely fine. Just installed the “update” and now the devices will not connect / pair. I have reinstalled updates and updated Smart Connect on my handset (Xperia S) but still no joy. So now I have a very expensive plastic bracelet!! Not impressed. C’mon Sony sort it out!!
