As one of the partners for the FIFA World Cup 2014™, we’ve been privileged to be involved in some incredible projects over the last few years that have showcased football’s ability to become a force for positive change in the world. So it’s with great pride that we can announce the start of the next of these projects, “Dream Goal 2014”, in association with streetfootballworld.
In the run up to, and for a year after the FIFA World Cup™ this summer, we’re working with streetfootballworld to provide Street Football Stadiums and support a series of workshops for an estimated 14,000 young people over the coming year. The stadia are portable enclosures that provide safe spaces for children to play street football and will be rolling out to over 12 countries as the project develops. Sony and five members of the Sony Group will provide 14 of these stadia to local NGOs and will support the activities that take place within them using both its own funds and donations from Sony staff. In May we’ll also be opening a competition, “Paint Stadium” through our “One Stadium” football portal , where people will be able to compete to have their illustrations featured on the panels of the Street Football Stadiums.
Despite the recent rapid economic development in Brazil and other Latin American countries, there is still a lack of safe spaces to play football, and many children in these communities have no choice but to risk their health and safety by playing in the street. We’re very pleased to be be playing a part in changing that.
