We’d just like to bring you up to speed with some of the latest SmartWatch 2 developments…
Last month we announced an exciting new addition to SmartWatch 2’s app portfolio – the world’s first wearable boarding pass with Vueling.
So… we’ve now got around (just under) 400 dedicated SmartWatch apps… no doubt helped by the fact that when we launched SmartWatch 2 our developer partners were pretty much averaging production at one extension a day.
Secondly, you might’ve seen we launched a few more stylish editions – firstly “Business”, and from this week “Brazil” – to celebrate SmartWatch 2 being an official accessory of the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup.
And lastly (but, as you’ll see not least-ly) from today, we’re excited to roll a software update for SmartWatch 2 that both fixes some little bugs, but also introduces a range of fresh & useful features.
Here’s a rundown of what’s included;
Customisable watch faces
You can now customise your watch faces from your wrist or phone through a simple drag and drop feature, just like on our Xperia smartphones. Just choose a watch face and add the widgets you want to have displayed. You can choose from date, weather, calendar, Bluetooth, notifications, battery indicator and an alarm as well as a host of other options. As the platform is open to 3rd party developers, new widgets and watch faces are constantly being developed – keep an eye out for more new designs coming soon.
Wallpapers
Also customisable from your wrist are our new wallpapers. The six unique and stylish wallpapers are now available and work independently from your smartphone.
Calculator
For those of us who aren’t ‘numbers’ people, a calculator has been included in the update. It features as a native app that’s not dependent on your phone, meaning you can use your calculator when your phone is in your bag or pocket.
Oh, and maybe key in a certain number and see what happens? Let us know if you know…
Improved Gmail and Facebook apps
Thanks to some of your feedback, we’ve made some slight tweaks to the Gmail and Facebook functionality on SmartWatch 2. Tweaks include improving the Gmail synchronisation between phone and watch, and making the posts on the Facebook app more “scrollable.” Have a look around and tell us what you think.
Notification drawer
We’ve also tweaked the notification drawer. You can now scroll through all of your calendar appointments and mark any events as ‘read’ straight from the watch.
Bluetooth connect/disconnect vibration settings
You can now choose to turn vibration settings off for when Bluetooth connects and disconnects.
This latest update represents a significant step forward in the capabilities of SmartWatch 2 and we’re very pleased in where we’ve brought the platform in terms of user experience, however, we’re always looking at new options in this sector and there are all sorts of exciting developments coming from our smart wearables teams… stay tuned for more news soon!

We need an application developed by Sony, that allow us create our own custom watchfaces, even animated watchfaces, the styles that smartwatch brings by default are a bit horrible.
This device could have an application store like pebble, and some basically functions that other clocks have, like: world clock or set some alarms, reminders directly on the phone, control smart TVs or add a friend to facebook through NFC communication, in example.
Furthermore, there are a lot of apps to this device developed by anyone, many of them are in bad quality and poor integration with smartwatch.
i would be better if Smartwatch 2 has it’s own App Store just like Pebble does
Smartwatch is working great – of course. But why the hell isn’t there a extension for Lifelog or other Smartband data?
To the is no reason to keep Smartwatch and Smartband apart. It’s annoying that Smartband isn’t any useful although there’s a great tool – SW2 – to keep Lifelog active part of daily life.
I’ve created a few Android-Wear based designs for the Sony SmartWatch 2 which give our watch a clean new feeling. Let me know what you think of the designs:

I really missed an app with different time zones when I´m traveling, but I found this app that does it.

Since July 2014 the Smart extension for Endomondo has disappeared from the Google Play.
I cannot find it. Where is it for smartwatch 2?
Endomondo is back
Hello, can you give me please the link of the app Endomondo for smartwatch 2 ? I can’t find it since july…
Thanks !

I like 2 of the watch faces on Google play, tried to buy them but both never came and I finally had to go to the play store resolution center to get a refund. Would have rather had the watch faces ⌚. Never had this happen on Google’s store before.
Hey Garth – did you try checking if they showed up as new clock widgets i the Sony SmartWatch 2 app?
I’ve created some new watchfaces that are in Google play and are added via the watchface editor. Feel free to try them out here:

Suggestion: It would’ve been really cool if the SmartWatch 2 was able to take screenshots!
dear sony no mony
meray pass no mony
Love ny SW2 so far.
An item that I really need is to be able to respond to texts.. Whether they be SMS/whatsapp/ or hangouts… If I could just have 10-20 phrases that I could send back I would be a happy guy. For developers I would be willing to spend money for an app…
Last item that would be cool is to have better sync with my Walkman app.. Would love to be able to switch playlists from the phone.
Love the new update Sony. Although I would love to see the lovely raindrops wallpaper added soon. Also I need help with calibrating the battery.
Thanks
Hi
Great update. Really glad to see that you guys in Sony are developing new stuff for the SW2.
Nevertheless, what about LTR language support (hebrew, arabic). This feature is desperately needed !!
there is so many promises and yet nothing about this?
Hi all,
Since this update I’m also experimenting frequent disconnections with my XPeria SP and I’m forced to reboot the phone to reconnect. In fact SW2 is disconnected but the phone’s Smartwatch2 application reports as connected.
Thanks
Great update. While checking mail, you can use option button to see the mail on your mobile screen
Really Great Update, works really good. Love the conrigurable watchfaces and the calculator with the watchworm game is Great.
Dear Sony,
After I installed the update for my smartwatch 2, it doesn’t want to connect to my phone (Sony Xperia Z1) anymore. If i try it connects for a second, and then it shuts down, there is a loading bar, then it starts up again. It connects, shuts down, loading bar, start up and so on. Please fix this! As i would love to see all those new features in action.
same as me.how is your watch now?
I love the update but it does not work with my LGG2. The update trys to load and then it power cycles. Please fix this, I was so annoyed I returned my watch.
Please! Make SW2 and other accessories support thai language.
