Sony partners with Twitch, the leading social platform for gamers

There’s great news for Android gaming fans this week, as we announce a partnership with Twitch, the leading social video platform and community for gamers.

Developed by us, the new app brings integrated in-device broadcasting to your Android smartphone for the first time ever. Whether you have an Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4, Xperia Z4v, or the Xperia™ Z4 Tablet, you will be able to live broadcast your gaming action to Twitch’s sizeable audience of over 100 million monthly visitors.

“With the growing appeal of both mobile gaming and live streaming, the Twitch community is now prevalent on every major platform,” said Brooke Van Dusen, Director of Business Development, Twitch. “By partnering with an innovator like Sony Mobile to enable the smartphone broadcasting of Android games on their Xperia devices, we are able to ensure our community has more avenues to embrace their passion.”twitch_logo3

Twitch made headlines last year for ‘Twitch plays Pokémon’, where a large community of you gamers tackled Pokémon together using Twitch’s text chat input to control on screen action. The event made Internet legend, spawned numerous memes and brought nearly 120,000 gamers together (you’ll be happy to know, all 151 original Pokémon were successfully captured in March, just a year after the phenomenon took off).

Now, with close to 35 million installs of the Twitch mobile viewing app, the added ability to broadcast most Android games to Twitch via our latest flagship smartphones and tablet is set to further enhance users’ mobile gaming experience.

“Partnering with Twitch to integrate live broadcasting directly in our latest flagship devices represents a fun, social experience for Xperia’s Android gamers.” said Carl-Fredrik Mårtensson, Senior Business Development Manager at Sony Mobile Communications. “Our users now have the capability to stream content, access and interact with the world’s leading gaming community directly from their device.”

Try it out for yourselves. It’s available to download on the Google Play Store today.
