Sony Mobile shares concerns surrounding mineral extraction activities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and its neighbouring countries that are fuelling conflicts and human rights abuses and financing armed groups. We welcome any attention brought to this complicated matter and support creation of an industry-wide framework to the complex issue.

We do not directly purchase raw materials such as tin, tantalum, tungsten or gold, but we purchase components that may contain these metals. What is needed are common initiatives from international organizations, governing authorities and industries. Sony Mobile supports initiatives such as Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) and Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC). As a member of the telecommunication industry, Sony Mobile participates in the GeSI Supply Chain working group to set standards and establish better controls for raw materials procurement.
