2 June, 2010 – Sony Ericsson today announces that Jan Uddenfeldt, currently Senior Vice President and Senior Technology Advisor to the CEO of Ericsson, is appointed Corporate Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Sony Ericsson effective 1st July.

At the same time Jan will assume the newly created role of Head of Sony Ericsson Silicon Valley. Jan will be based at the company’s Redwood Shores, California, offices and will report directly to Bert Nordberg, President, Sony Ericsson.

Jan brings 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, during which time he has served as CTO of Ericsson as well as led the company’s development of both GSM and 3G technologies. He also has vast experience in building technology partnerships and alignment with leading operator customers in the US, Europe, Japan and China. Since 2008 Jan has been based in San Jose, California, and has been responsible for technology strategies for the Ericsson Group.

Leading Electronics companies and Environmental organisations urge EU to restrict more hazardous substances in electronic products in 2015 to avoid more global dioxin formation

(Brussels – ) EU legislators are now in the process of deciding future restrictions on hazardous substances in electronics through the EU Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive.i An alliance consisting of Acer, Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Sony Ericsson, together with public interest organisation ChemSec, Clean Production Action and the European Environmental Bureau, call on EU legislators to ban the use of all brominated flame retardants (BFR) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in electronics put on the market from end of 2015 onwards.

The current RoHS Directive restricts some heavy metals and two types of BFR. The alliance is calling for restrictions on all brominated substances as well as PVC. The European Parliament Environment Committee will vote on the RoHS proposal on 3 June. The European Parliament will consider the directive in plenary in July 2010.
