A Day With XPERIA X10

Earlier this week I was contacted by Marcus and Albin, two Sonyericsson colleagues working in Lund, Sweden, who have had the good fortune of using the XPERIA X10 for a couple of months. As a summary of some of their experiences they wanted to do a video clip showing how the X10 can be used in daily life.
In the video clip Marcus shows how he uses Timescape as the home screen of the phone and has all social media feeds, texts, music and photos easily accessible at the tip of a finger. Marcus also shows how he is using PlayNow for buying music, Market for downloading apps and games and TrackID for finding out what songs are playing at a café or in a store. The integration with YouTube is also shown from different perspectives.

I’m sure many of you who already have bought X10 or have followed this blog might have seen parts of this before but there are also newcomers here and I really think this shows a good glimpse of what to expect from XPERIA X10 and highlights some of its features in a very good way!

Please share among the comments if you have other good examples showing the experience of XPERIA X10!

    welcome back. you’ve been. Satio’s successor :!: :!: I’ll be very steep.
Although I really like Timescape-mediascape. be nice if it were a Satio 2 with Android and UXP
I miss the old days of Satio launch

Sorry but from the statement wording there’s no indication that the X10 will be upgraded to multi-touch – just that there will be a big announcement in the second half of the year about MT.
This sounds to me like an X10 successor running 2.1 or later with MT NOT an upgrade to the existing X10 (which I’m sure will get a software upgrade but not MT).
Also I don’t believe Sept – SE say H2 which means Nov/Dec or early Jan where SE is concerned.

@Piotr, welcome back! How come you’re so sure? :) It’s been confirmed 2wice that there’ll be NO MT.

I wish you’re right but I think there’ll be a successor to X10 with MT rather than X10 itself receiving MT update.

Piotr, are you certain that X10 will receive MT? Is it not its successor rather? SE announced X10 around Q3 last year so 12 months later means a successor, imo.

    @ Rohan

I’m pretty sure current 1.6 phone’s have a black menu as well. SE customized theirs to be blue, so I don’t think 2.1 will change that for you sorry :)

    @ Rohan & Freedy

Unless I’m mistaken, 2.1 is already out, in spite of that not all 2.1 devices are flash enabled, meaning Flash is not yet a standard. Only phones like Desire have flash, cause HTC put it in themselves. I believe Adobe and Google are now working to make it a standard with later releases.

@SE team, is the september update confirmed ?

will it really take another 6 month till the x10 gets an update ?
just because almost any new phone has monthly FW-bugfixes.

and in september we’ll already see the announcements of the next generation of the milestones, nexus’, desire’ and also the X11.

How come X10 doesn’t feature a proximity sensor for auto turn off when bringing the phone to one’s ear during calls? I mean that’s a basic feature :(

    @Rikard,

If you really are so sure, why dont you make a blog post confirming that there is no multi touch on x10i. That would end all this craze, as it was started by sony ericsson, during some marketing for x10, And why dont you try to end it, instead of writing a comment?

    @ everyone concerned,

Pls ask Se bloggers to make a new post confirming that there really is no multi touch. Was just about to get x10 today, felt really nice in the hand, but no multi touch means i am definitely not getting it, and would prefer samsung I9000 instead.

    @Rickard,
Thanks for the clarification. Today i went to a local retailer who is carrying the device, and he advised us at the local launch with SE rep, the rep was not clear on whether the phone was capable of MT. It seems the SE marketing team needs to another round of Product Knowledge meeting with the retailers in order to shake them up with NO MT AVAILABLE. I went to 5 different places and everyone told me MT will be available as soon as Android 2.1 update is out. I hope that SE does not get stuck with some unhappy customer due to the retailers’ giving out false information to the users.
    Thanks again! :)

I tried it yesterday in Taipei. They told me there won’t be MT, neither now nor in the future because the phone hardware doesn’t support MT. That said i like the form factor and the style of the phone, not to mention the endless display, which to me is the right size but i had the following issues that turned me off from buying it
    a) That blue background, the staff didn’t really manage to change it. It sucks big time. Don’t know why but it makes the phone appear cheaper, not to mention the fact you can’t change your background as you want is irritating (tried in 2 different shops, Chung Hwa operator and in a X10 Cafe they have in Taipei, where they show the mobile and the features. None of them was able to find any option to change the background). Belive me or not, that blue background is stopping many buyers as to many it is definitely ugly. Asked them about when SE thinks we’ll see a ROM update and they said they didn’t know but surely not too soon (very honest though). Other issue was the keyboard in landscape mode. Really odd….i typed a letter and it kept writing the same character for whole rows…same for space and the del button didn’t work properly. Tested in 2 models with the same issues.

For that price i’ll wait for DESIRE to come out in Taiwan rather than taking X10. And bear with me, i really liked it for the rest but it’s just LACKING in way too many sections, with complaints all over the net.

Wait.. the X10 doesn’t have a proximity sensor? Didn’t we make a a big deal once upon a time that the supposed ‘front facing camera’ was nothing but a proximity sensor? You mean it does’t work? or it’s not a sensor at all?
    Can anyone else confirm this?

@Mayowa, on Manish’s personal blog, someone bought an X10 for his wife. He noted that it didn’t work and that calls got cut when the phone would touch her cheek, and this happened at least a few times. I cannot, however, confirm that the X10 has no proximity sensor but whether it has it or not it’s surely not working! :(

I remember now.. this was what came out at the time, the FCC sheet. https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/oet/forms/blobs/retrieve.cgi?attachment_id=1216270&native_or_pdf=pdf
According to that still says it has a proximity sensor and a light sensor..
Any reason it’s not utilizing it then?

@Manish, Rikard and other X10 owners, would you confirm with us whether the proximity sensor indeed works?
    Thanks

Looking at forums, it would appear it works for some doesn’t for others. It won’t turn of the screen for like 15-30 seconds, but it will deactivate the touch for some.

My proximity sensor works perfect, when i make a call and put it near my face it doesn’t let me push any button, then after a few seconds the screen turns off, if i put away the phone while talking the screen turns on and i can press any button.

Ok, so as I mentioned before, Flash support will be coming to Android later as confirmed by Adobe http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/18/adobe-ceo-flash-coming-to-android-webos-and-blackberry-smartp/

If SE jumping to 2.1 by September.. I get the feeling we won’t have Flash for another.. 6months? :( Or how exactly will SE be updating the Android releases?

X10 definitely has a proximity sensor,at least it does work on my X10.
However,I had doubted that it didn’t work, since it hanged up few calls.
I think the sensor is a little insensitive. It works when you touch above it,but if a distance between them that it doesn’t work.
