Hello everyone
As of today, the good people at Microsoft have made the new version of Office Mobile (2010) available for free via the Windows Phone Marketplace. So, if you’re toting an X1, X2 or an Aspen, check it out.
The new version is supposedly much more touch friendly and includes improved versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint workspace (including the ability to edit PowerPoint documents). Get it for free from your handset via the Windows Phone Marketplace or visit the Windows Phone blog for more information.
Thanks, Aaron
Thank you all for the great and positive feedback on the new X10 mini and X10 mini pro. It has been very much at our heart to develop a new consumer-oriented user experience. Both devices share the same philosophy of a smart combination of compactness and cleverness. In other words, we reduce the size of a smart phone as you know it today and revolutionize the user interface in a way that gives consumers the benefit to easily navigate with only one hand. This comes to life with the concept of the 4 corner touch home screen, which allows you to have your favorite apps and shortcuts at the reach of a thumb as well as other apps. Whether you are surfing the web or are flicking through your pictures, you can easily zoom in and out simply by using your thumb. Everything single-handed which makes the devices a dream to use when on the move. Depending on your habits you might actually prefer typing on the QWERTY keyboard with two thumbs on the X10 mini pro. But apart from that, one-hand usage it is just so intuitive.
I noted some of your comments asking for the multi touch support. Having shared our personal experiences using the new UI within our team, we just love it the way it is and think that multi-touch would actually just destroy the simplicity of using these products. To avoid any speculation I can confirm that we do not have any intention to implement multi touch on X10 mini and X10 mini pro.
Good news for all Aino users! You can get the 2nd software update now on www.sonyericsson.com/update . It will give your Aino even more stability and a further improved battery stamina. With this update you will also benefit from the new video codec supported (MIME-type MPEG4-generic) and improved WLAN/Bluetooth coexistence. To thank you for your fidelity, we have added the new game Bubble Town 2 and 3 new Sony Ericsson themes.
Enjoy the spring re-freshment of your Aino with more entertainment!
Thanks for your patience concerning more information about software upgrades.
UXP (UX platform) is the strategic framework for the core of Sony Ericsson’s portfolio. The Xperia™ X10 family of phones (Xperia™ X10, Xperia™ X10 mini and Xperia™ X10 mini pro) are the first products to deliver this unique user interface layer to the market. UXP builds on top of the Android OS and brings together a rich graphical user interface, unrivalled service plug-ins and content from external partners to deliver unique consumer propositions such as Sony Ericsson’s signature applications Mediascape and Timescape™. Through UXP consumers get the best of two worlds, leveraging Sony Ericsson heritage as a leader in communication entertainment and the benefits that the generic Android OS delivers. With UXP Sony Ericsson gives consumers additional value in comparison to generic Android handsets. Sony Ericsson’s strategy is to continue to enrich the UXP layer through software updates.
Some examples of user benefits that will be included in the UXP upgrade for Xperia™ X10 in Q4 2010 are:
- Upgrade to Android OS version 2.1
- HD video recording as per the same execution as Sony Ericsson Vivaz™
- Wireless home connectivity via DLNA
- Improvements to signature applications Timescape™ and Mediascape to make them even smarter and richer
The upgrade will be made available to consumers through the update service at www.sonyericsson.com
I do appreciate that the timing for the upgrade above might not meet some of your expectations and that you will have further detailed questions. I will take them onboard reading your comments and address questions as soon as it is possible for me to share further details.
I would also like to emphasise that there will be an additional smaller software update, already in the next couple of weeks aiming to enhance the usability and performance of Xperia™ X10. In the next post, I will share more details and precise timings for when this update will be released.
We can also confirm that the Xperia™ X10 mini and Xperia™ X10 mini pro will be upgraded to Android version 2.1, during Q4 2010.
More details with regards to the specific components of the UXP upgrade will be shared over time through official Sony Ericsson channels including this blog.
Kind regards,
Sumit
