Today we also had the opportunity to meet Legolas Svärdsäter, our Product Manager for the Xperia™ pro. He showed us a bit of the phone and talked around the specific features added to really get the most out of the hardware qwerty keyboard.
The phone he shows in the video happened to have a Swedish keyboard but just as for e.g. Xperia™ X10 mini pro the keyboards will of course be different for different markets.
I’ve tried it a bit myself and I must say the size and tactility of the keyboard is just brilliant. I have been a fan of the X10 mini pro keyboard and this really has the same feeling to it but it is a bit bigger, has one more column of keys and has a bit more space between the keys which makes it even better to type on.
Of all the just-announced phones, I think I find this the most compelling replacement for my X10. I’m trying to work out if I can cope with a 3.7″ screen after enjoying the 4″ X10 screen for the past year.

@Malcolm
For me, I think the keyboard out outweighs the smaller screen. I love that split email view and the whole “smart” keyboard thing.
Really, its also a different class of phone… x10 was balanced, pro is more business, so I guess it depends what you need.

How about some info for current SE customers? Specifically, those of us STILL without 2.1?

Unfortunately, Sony Ericsson’s software support is too poor!

Just wanted to know what happens if the keyboard is open already and you go into an email. Will it still pop up with the menus.

Really looking forward to the Xperia Pro. The X10mp is great for size with it’s fantastic keyboard. Just hope the Xperia Pro isn’t to large. Most smartphones are getting too big just now. The small form factor of the Mini Pro was the USP that really did the trick for me.
How about an Xperia Pro Mini with 3 inch 480×640 res?
Also excited about the camera with Exmor sensor. Always loved the Cybershot range of phones with image quality a cut above the rest. If Exmor delivers better images at lower lighting levels that would be great. Give us a 5MP sensor with noise free images at ISO 3200 and ditch the LED light, that’s what I want.
… oh, and one wish: Please SE, don’t bundle Demo-Apps with the System that can’t be uninstalled. Don’t insult the Pro with cheap gimmicks.

The Mini Pro is good from a hardware perspective, and I’m sure that the keyboard will be similarly compelling on this. But the shagging around over newer releases of Android make me think I’d be better off looking at HTC’s competitors in this space. Shame.
The update to Android 2.1 for the X10 handsets has already been released. If you have not received this yet, we will be awaiting approval from your network operator.
If you would like me to look into this for you, feel free to send me a message here: http://bit.ly/gYsOvy.

looks like an interesting replacement for my x10. but will need a dual core, bigger screen and a 5 row keyboard to convince me away from the droid/milestone 3
