Today I’m at a blogger event in central London where we just announced our latest additions to the family, the Xperia™ mini and the Xperia™ mini pro. I’ll try to write a post on the event itself more in detail tonight or tomorrow morning.

Our main goal with the Xperia family is to offer the most entertaining smartphones, and to do that with choice.

Therefore I’m excited to see these new products where we really offer massive experience and performance without comprise, just in a smaller form factor. I truly believe that even you who’d like a smaller phone do want performance and features like HD-video recording and the Reality display with Mobile Bravia engine to get the most out of your smartphone experience.

Compared to our first mini products these really represent major step-ups in all aspects from screen size and resolution to 1 GHz processing power, increased memory and Camera capabilities.

Truly mini from a size perspective but quite the contrary when it comes to performance and power.

Our plan is to have these in stores in Q3 and more details can be found on their respective product home pages and in our press room.

The product home pages for each product can be found here:

Xperia mini – World’s smallest Android powered HD video smartphone

Xperia mini pro – Android powered smartphone for easy messaging

I’m disappointed that yet again, T-Mobile USA customers were ignored by Sony Ericsson. Do you guys just hate us or something? The last phone we got from SE officially was the Equinox, a feature phone. The Xperia X10i supported T-Mobile USA’s 3G network on AWS, but it was never made available for sale as such.

What would it take for you guys to make T-Mobile 3G compatible Android phones for us?

What’s the screen resolution? 320×240 like the x10 mini or 480×320?

now, SE, these phones will have Gingerbread and they have almost the same hardware as old x8 and x10 mini/mini pro, so you should give us a update like you did it for big x10. i hope that you will change your mind and if you won’t change it, you will loose many of your customers :)

Sony Ericsson I know that I am not the only one looking at this in disgust, you abandon your phones after 6 months of them coming out and will never give them Android 2.2 or 2.3 (apart from the X10). Other cheap phones like the HTC wildfire and the Samsung Galaxy europa can get it so why can’t we? The same will happen to these phone, if my Xperia X8 will never see Android 2.2+ then I will NEVER buy a Sony Ericsson phone again, I used to be a huge Sony Ericsson fan, nearly 5,000 people want an update and if they don’t get it I am sure they will all have to think twice before they buy another phone from you.
I hope that you are happy putting high profits over customers.

Frustrated with the lack of attention given towards the North American market. Understandably, broad availability is dependent on carrier support, however I imagine that customers willing to pay unsubsidized prices and perhaps global shipping on unlocked sim free devices would not hurt SE. Is the barrier mainly regulatory?

that’s really not fair enough compare to Xperia x8 , x10mini and x10pro users.same Xperia family, but can’t get the latest update services From Sony Ericsson. Actually I’m using Xperia x8. I still remember my first mobile is from SE, k500i, and i already change few mobile phone also from SE. never switch to another company. and…that’s what I get:
“Will you upgrade the XperiaTM X10 mini, mini pro and XperiaTM X8 to 2.3?

No, we have no such plans. We have had to prioritize our resources and have therefore focused on delivering the upgrade to XperiaTM X10.”

    @Rikard,
Does this mean that the current line of Xperia 10 Mini/Mini Pro (and X8) will get 2.3 at the same time as these phones are released or will we get it earlier, like the X10 in late Q2?

Hello. I am confused as the Global web site shows that both of these phones operate on the 850 UMTS band, but the press release shows that they operate on the 850 band. Which is it? I am also tired of seeing great phones released in markets outside of the US, and have been waiting for the X10 Mini update for months.

    Very nice upgrades!!!:)

Improvements in most aspects but still not slimmer… both phones should have been about 3-4mm slimmer…

And what about the bundles headphones? I saw normal headphones in one of the pics on product pages. What happened to the in-ear type headphones as supplied with the X10 mini and pro??? In-ear types are much comfortable, if these are not supplied with the phone, then that would be a downgrade no matter what… Please supply in-ear type headphones with the new minis…

On the picture The new xperia mini got a black instead of a blue backgrund in The contacts or sms app. Does this mean that we finally Will be able to get rid of that blue color? Because it’s everywere On The x10 minis… And im so tired to see that blue color all The time :)

Hey Rikard! Thought I’d leave some positive feedback… you don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for these!! Amazed they have the Bravia engine too. Everything is improved upon, really impressed. Must agree, they sound quite thick though…but I’ll reserve judgement til I’ve seen. Look awesome anyway!
