As you probably saw last week, Skype announced that Skype for Android now supports video calling. We have recorded a short video featuring Xperia neo and Xperia pro which are two out of only four phones supported on the initial release. I have to be honest that I haven’t used Skype video calling on a smartphone before, but it was surprisingly simple to make a call and the video quality was very good as well. In the video you also catch a glimpse of the use case with connecting an Xperia pro to a big screen TV. To manage expectations, you will not get this in HD quality even though you connect through the HDMI connector, but still, this basically turns your Xperia into a mobile video conferencing system to carry around in your pocket.

As we do quite a lot of phone calls across our company, and some of them last for a significant time, I once in a while miss the face to face meetings. So for next week I have set a personal target to replace at least 10 of my regular calls with video calls :-)

Can I ask U, why you show us Xperia PRO??? It´s angry, when in FEBRUARY the phone was announced, to June it´s 3 months – I know – Earthquake, but It´s too hard to belive, that it is only delayed by the earthquake. Xperia X1 – delay half year – there was no earthquake.
When in the UK and other big countries will be in Q4 (maybe), what we from small countries. We will wait one year?
Why you announce more and more mobile phones, when you are not able to make three new models at time???
    Sorry for my English.

Let us know when you have tested the “New” Skpe for simple Audio calls using Xperia (X10)
    .
    .
Up to now, the advice for Xpera X10 is:
    .
DO NOT UPDATE TO THIS SKYPE FOR ANDROID.
IT BREAKS AUDIO (Microphone). Is now USELESS on SE X10 Xperia as the Microphone cannot work.
    STAY WITH THE PREVIOUS VERSION!!
The earlier versions work, this version does not.

In the US we would be lucky to see the pro or neo at all, if they do ever make it over here they will probably be released in 2012.

Daniel, when (date or month) will the Arc be released in the US?

Fully understand the eagerness for Xperia pro. Since I send a lot of emails from my phone it’s one of my favorites too. However, as we have communicated earlier, following the earthquake in Japan, we have shifted the timing of the global introduction of Xperia pro to early Q4 2011 in order to meet continued demand for Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, which have already been introduced in multiple markets.

    @kingston

The big X10 pdate has been announced as beginning at the start of August. Depending on how you want to count your calendar quarters, this is just about inside the “late Q2/early Q3″ (I read Q3 as being July to September)release that was originally announced.

There’s been lots of moans about the mini Xperia’s not getting an update, but it looks as though most people agree that the standard update wouldn’t “fit” due to the differences in phone’s set up and the way the on screen UI operates. I’ve seen some custom ROMs that have tried to update the mini, but don’t know what they’re like.

To be fair, my X10 is slow and laggy and does all the other stupid things that everyone with an Xperia complains about, which I’m hoping will be fixed with the 2.3 update. Don’t know what SE is gonna do about the mini bugs.

NO ONE WANTS THE XPERIA PLAY!!!
I am dead sure that more people would definitely rather have the Xperia Pro rather than the Xperia Play…
I myself am a student of age 17 AND I PREFER AN XPERIA PRO OVER THE XPERIA PLAY….
Let’s just hope and pray that the upcoming iPhone 5 in September doesnt blow our minds too far away to be unable to anticipate the wait for the Xperia Pro anymore.

As at this time, Skype versions after 1.0.0.984 and up to at least 2.0.0.47 are BROKEN and WILL NOT WORK (Microphone broken) with most Sony Ericsson phones (All XPERIA etc)
    …..
If you have updated Skype by accident, then you need to uninstall it, and install the Last known GOOD working version of Skype(version 1.0.0.984)
    ..
One place you can get it is here:

@Daniel Sandblom:: Yes, but for ex. in Czech, we still wait for NEO official distribution – it´s delayed and delayed – last date is start of september – can I beliveve that? I´m long time SE fan since Sony J5, then SE T68i, K500i, K800i, Xperia X1i, now i have non SE phone, because I´m still waiting for new models – now I have no chance to buy in CZ any new SE…

Latam never arrived Vivaz, but we many imported Vivaz. Most phones are being imported because operators take too long to bring them
These phones will be available for Latam ?

So this explains the delay for Neo’s release. You guys simply just outdate your product line prior their actual release. Talk about marketing deceit. Why can’t you simply say, “..can’t release Neo and Pro as we like to put stuff so we can say ‘first’.”

Sir, the first thing us android users do is to uninstall every poorly-performing/inappropriate bundled app you place on the phone and we get our apps at the Android Market whenever we need it. It’s one of the essential factors why we are not iOS users.
