We have been having a lot of questions regarding the update for our 2011 Xperia™ phones to the new Android 2.3.4 version. And we are happy to tell you that today we announced that the 2.3.4 version of Gingerbread platform for all the 2011 Xperia™ Smartphones will start the roll out during October at select markets.

Some of the features you will get from this update are:

  • Google Talk with Video Chat for smartphones with front-facing cameras
  • Updated Facebook inside Xperia™ functionality for enhanced like, share and discover abilities. We have talked about Facebook  inside Xperia™ on previous posts.
  • Xperia™ smartphones introducing world’s first 3D sweep panorama functionality powered by Sony.
  • The software upgrade will enable consumers to turn their Xperia™  smartphone into a mini-mobile PC by connecting USB peripherals (mouse, keyboard or game controller) to Sony Ericsson LiveDock™ multimedia station. Connect the smartphone to a TV via HDMI to get a big screen experience.
  • Swipe text input – text input by swiping the finger from one letter to the next
  • Screen capture – allows the user to share a screen grab from anywhere in the phone

Also, we are announcing the launch of Xperia™ neo V, an Android smartphone that continues growing on our Xperia™ portfolio, and that will be available in selected markets from Q4 2011. Xperia™ neo V is one of the first products to launch with the new software and will include features such as Google Talk with Video Chat, 3D sweep panorama and Facebook inside Xperia™.

What I like the best about Xperia neo V is the design. It is very comfortable for taking pictures and video, as it is designed with the Human curvature on mind. Also, neo V has Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, and has a built in HDMI connection, that makes it easier to connect it to your HD TV to share the pictures and videos you took with everyone!

The software upgrade will be available in select markets  through a phased roll out starting from October 2011. Xperia™ owners will receive a notification in phone instructing them to instantaneously download the software over the air via 3G or WiFi. Alternatively, they will have the option to connect to a computer and download it via PC companion.

Nice to see all these new phones coming out. Perhaps it’s time to start focusing on rolling out these phones.

I feel that announcing new phones and delaying launches of phones were already announced don’t really match.

What is that kind of strategy?

    Hi, Cristina!

Just one doubt. The Sony Ericsson LiveDock, does it have an HDMI port? I am thinking of buying a Xperia Ray and a LiveDock in order to use them as my mobile phone… and a really portable computer. But the phone does not have an HDMI port.

Thanks in advance and congratulations for your blog!

Great news!!!! I’m happy to see that you have learn from your past mistakes, keep up the good work!!!

You could do one thing more to get attention and to make your xperia line more popular: Do what HP did with the touchpad, make a promo price of the xperia play or arc and sell it for 250 euros( limited time of course)so u will get a great user base and a lot of media attention. I know that it’s not a easy thing to do but it will bring you good things in the near future.

Hello Ernst! Xperia™ neo V comes with video chat out of the box with Google Talk™. If you prefer a different video chat you can download Skype or other apps from Android Market. More Sony technology such as 3D panorama sweep is also included. To reach a wider audience, Xperia™ neo V comes with a 5mpix camera instead of the 8mpix camera in Xperia™ neo.

Don’t you people at Sony Ericsson consider the x8 as a part or the Xperia family?? You people are really disappointing us X8 users by not even giving us the Froyo update. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

SE must also update the X10i range smartphones to 2.3.4 update. The 2.3.3 update contains lots of bugs i.e. media player and camera (no auto rotate features same as to 2.1) and also it doesn’t reduce its memory usage that leads to so much lag to the phone.

Could you add functionality to the W960 phone on Android, namely the possibility of transmission of sound radio to bluetooth for example mbs-100, as well as add a sleep timer in fm tuner.
