A new update of Skype for Android

Today, Skype announced the Skype 2.5 update for Android, and confirmed that  Xperia™ neo V and Xperia™ Live with Walkman also support video calling.  This means Skype video calling is now available on all 7 Xperia™ devices with front camera, including the devices that have been supported in the previous releases – Xperia™ neo, Xperia™ pro, Xperia™ PLAY,  Xperia™ mini pro, Xperia™ ray.

Some of the enhancements you will have with the Skype 2.5 for Android update is an enhanced video calling experience,  with the possibility that you now can make video calls in portrait mode and easily zoom in and out during calls just by double tapping on the screen.

If you want more information about this update, please visit the Skype release here, and if you are ready to start experiencing the new version, go to the Sony Ericsson channel in the Android Market and download Skype 2.5 for Android and tell us what you think.

Please remember that for the best performance of Skype on your phone, it is recommended that you use a strong WiFi connection. If you are on 3G, you should make sure you have an appropriate data plan.

“go to the Sony Ericsson channel in the Android Market ” ….

Er, since the Android Market update (I have Build 3.1.5 running on my Arc) the Sony Ericsson channel appears to have disappeared… :o (

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 9 Thumb down 3

      Hi,

You should still be able to access the Sony Ericsson page within the Featured apps section of the Android Market. You would need to scroll down and this will be written next to the option for Editor’s choice.

      Hi,

Unfortunately the Xperia Active is not included in the above list as it does not have a front facing camera.

      Hi,

At the moment there are no announced handsets running on the Windows Mobile operating system however I will ensure your feedback regarding this is passed on for consideration.

      Hi,

The handset will support video calling over 3G using Skype however this would also need to be supported by your service provider. Where possible, we would recommend using Wi-Fi instead of 3G to ensure a secure connection.

      Hi,
Sorry we don’t have dates for when the handset will be available in India here. I’d suggest contacting your local support team who may be able to provide an estimate time of release.
