Recently, a project that our colleagues in the Extras team have been working on caught our attention. They teamed up with the London College of Fashion to create a project based on LiveView™  and capture the students creativity. The idea behind this project is for the students to research, design and present their creative ideas for new, wearable technology which incorporates LiveView™.

The Extras team  gave each student that is participating  an Xperia™ Arc and a LiveView™ and the students will present their ideas and thoughtsover the next weeks in a project blog  at www.liveviewlcf.com. Visit the site so you can read all about their research, ideas and concepts. There are already some really cool things in there.  Also, you can check the video of the launch of the project here.

Once this activity  finishes in December, our Facebook fans will choose the best overall design. The winning student will then present their concepts to our team. Check the blog and wish them luck!

The LiveView is great, don’t get me wrong, but Sony Ericsson need to work on the reliability of the connection – when I previously had my LiveView device, an update made the connection considerably more reliable, but there’s still some work to go… It would be great see more native plug-ins (i.e. those made by Sony Ericsson themselves), with a GMail plug-in and a Google+ plug-in being the most obvious examples.

Unfortunately, I lost my LiveView device and at AU$100, it won’t be until after christmas that I replace it…

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 13 Thumb down 0

if you are going in the direction of Liveview concept, you not only have to consider Gregory’s suggestions, you need to make the strap feels more sturdy and fashionable, but also that something i want to go out with.
The current industrial design and the strap is just not appealing.

    Hi,

I think the Idea behind liveview is smart. The execution is poor.

    - I have updated the liveview to the most recent firmware. Still connection not reliable at all. Which is very very annoying when you are running with sportypal.

    - The buttons, not very smart. Assume screen is off and you want to see what track is playing. You press the button up right. Then automatically you press it again to have the screen off. Ops. The music stop. Not a bug, but not very well thought (or tested).

    - In general the feel of the object is very very cheap and the strap is bulky. You really do not want other to see you wearing that thing. I have an xperia Ray, and is very very beautiful, can you do something on the same style. Currently the liveview is UGLY.

    - Again and again. Fix the connection. Fix the connection. I just do not get how this product could have been ship to market with such huge Bluetooth pairing problems.

In general I like the direction SE is taking for lot of things: the commitment to Android, the frequent updates, the Xperia 2011 line.. but still there are some completely crazy things that I just do not understand from a company like Sony. Liveview is one of them.

I don’t agree with the fact that the LiveView is ugly… the strap can be changed, the feel is cheap, but the LiveView is cheap too. The simple straight design is very nice to me.

But the problem with connection is the REAL BIG PROBLEM. I’m using LW with the latest software with an xperia mini pro with the latest 2.3.4 software, still it always disconnects and never reconnects automatically. This way, the LV is USELESS, if I could I would take it back immediately, I’m thinking about asking for a refund to SE Italy.

Another example of poor design is the fact that the USB port is covered by the strap support when you attach the LV to the strap support, so every time you have to charge it you must remove the LV from the support, which is not so easy and there’s the risk that the support will be damaged after some time. Was this so difficult to think *before* building the LV?

Anyway, the connection is the real problem. SE should take the LV out of the market because it SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK. As it is now, they’re simply making fun of their customers.

It would be nice to see some added functionality in LiveVIew. Why not add sensors to enable the ability to collect biometric data via a 3-axis accelerometer such as stress, sleep, exercise, exercise and true caloric burn from a heat flux sensor and means to determine body temperature, pulse, blood pressure and even muscle fatigue. If SonyEricsson wants to compete with the watch on my wrist then the offer must be compelling. Let me do more than tell time and manage my phone remotely. Let me look at my internal clock, show me how small changes can help me live a healthier life. Make LiveView a LifeView. Motorola’s MotoActv has many flaws, and the art thing I need is another music device, but it is pointing in the right direction.
