As we have posted before, with the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update we are rolling out, one of the really cool features that you will have on your Xperia™ phone is the USB host feature, that turns your Xperia™  smartphone into a mini-mobile PC , by connecting USB peripherals, mouse, keyboard or gamepad, to the Sony Ericsson LiveDock™ multimedia station and lets you have a greater experience when you connect your Xperia phone to your screen, through HDMI.

LiveDock™  is compatible with Xperia™ arc, Xperia™ arc S, Xperia™ pro, Xperia™ active, Xperia™ mini, Xperia™ mini pro, Xperia™ ray, Xperia™ neo, Xperia™ neo V and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman™ .

Also, for an updated list of the released kits of the update, please find them on the comments section on the blog post we had last Friday.

According to the hidden “Service Menu” (Service tests–>HDMI test), the Xperia PLAY can output video content via the HDMI port…

Any chance we’ll see this made available at a user-level or better yet, introduction of the ability to mimic the behaviour of the LiveDock Multimedia Station with the Multimedia Dock for Xperia PLAY? After all, what’s the point in even supporting this if it is never going to be implemented at a user-level?

By the way, for those curious as to what I am referring to, it is a hidden menu that can accessed on any Xperia smartphone by pressing: Home button–>Back button–>Back button–>Home button–>Back button–>Home button–>Home button–>Back button).

This is a default option within the Android service menu. As the Xperia Play does not have an HDMI port, it would not be possible to connect in this way.

    Just one point,

When will mass storage support will come ? other competitors have this ( connecting a USB flash memory ) and it will be available so we can use it copy data to/from… I know it will take power from the phone, but this is what the LiveDock is meant to do…
