The guys over at PointUI have just released the beta version of their new home-2 software.
I only installed it this morning but I’ve already been won over. It is intuitively laid out, easy to navigate and slickly rendered. The beta has quite limited functionality but it’s a great taster of what’s to come when they release the pro version, and perfectly useable in it’s own right. It’s free and available for download in panel form from the products section of the PointUI website.
feel free to leave any feedback re: the Xperia panel in the comments, we’ll collate it and get it back to PointUI.
Sony Ericsson announced the winners of their content awards for 2008 this morning. You can see all the other winners on the content awards site but the prize for the best new Xperia panel went to SPB software for the SPB traveler panel.
The panel uses the internet connection and the GPS on the X1 to provide you with a number of useful travelling tools including a currency convertor, flight search, multi time zone diary and a phrasebook. For more information check out SPB’s website.
Update:
The nominees were:
Mobisystems (English to Japanese dictionary)
PlusFourSix (for their work on 3 sweden’s operator panel)
We’re back from the new year break and thought we’d kick off 2009 with a bunch of new ways you can personalize your Xperia.
The guys over at pocketables have come up with a list of 15 tips for new Sony Ericsson Xperia users (we should say at this point that a couple of the suggestions are quite technical so don’t mess about with settings if you don’t know what they do.) In particular we’re loving the YouTube Panel and the improved battery monitor.
If you know of any other good ways to personalize the phone, please leave them in the comments and I’ll collate them all in to a post later on.

As promised, here is the video demo of the new facebook panel. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments and we’ll do what we can to answer them. Enjoy.

The first new panels (facebook and windows live,) for the xperia are now available for download from www.sonyericsson.com/fun. We’ve been trying them out over the last week or so and so far so good – windows live panel lets you integrate your hotmail, msn messenger and live search into the handset, whilst the facebook panel provides a custom interface between the handset and the site.
Two of the facebook features are particularly noteworthy – you can use the phone number field of your friends’ profiles as a kind of subsidiary phonebook and call them from within the panel, which is very cool. Also, the photos page gives you a one click upload and allows you to open the camera without leaving the panel.
We’ll have a demo video of all this up tomorrow.
