Did you know that 80% of blindness is avoidable? Around 39 million people worldwide are suffering from blindness but with the correct treatment many of them could gain back their eye sight.

At Sony Mobile we believe in investing in our communities and making a difference through our products, technology and know-how. The ongoing collaboration between Peek Vision and Sony Mobile is a perfect example of just that. Peek has created a portable eye examination app and an adapter that combined with a smartphone can replace the heavy, bulky eye examination equipment that’s usually required for these examinations. Instead of relying on that people in rural areas come into the cities to seek help for their eye conditions, ophthalmologists can easily bring the equipment to their patients and diagnose eye conditions even in the most remote areas of the world.

Without treatment and contact lenses, Stewart Jordan cofounder of Peek Vision, would himself be diagnosed as blind. Stewart now wants to help people who are in the same position as him, but without access to the healthcare they so desperately need.

With millions of people worldwide suffering from blindness, Peek bridges the gap and takes healthcare where it’s most needed. We at Sony Mobile are very proud to be part of this story with our Xperia™ smartphones. So far we have invested 150 smartphones to areas including Kenya, Mali, Tanzania, India and Guatemala to support Peek’s initiative in making eye examinations more accessible for those in even the remotest of settings. We are committed to this collaboration and will continue to invest going forward.
