Our friends at Google have just announced an exciting Android Wear update, which means some pretty neat new features are on the way soon for smartwatch 3.

So, we’ve taken a look at some of the features and what they mean for how you’ll experience your Sony smartwatch 3…

Smartwatch 3 set a standard for standalone Android Wear functionality, with native GPS and offline music playback – and the latest update takes that to the next level. “WiFi for Android Wear” will connect your phone to your watch via the cloud, so you won’t always need a tethered Bluetooth connection. As smartwatch 3 is Wi-Fi ready, whenever you’re connected to Wi-Fi, you can walk away from your phone safe in the knowledge you’ll still be able to send messages, use apps and see those all important likes and tweets.

Wearable tech should take dependencies away to make life easier, and this update goes further to do just that – Android Wear will now respond to gestures, so you can scroll through cards and apps on smartwatch 3 with a simple flick of the wrist.

That’s not all, the update will bring a whole host of other new Android Wear goodies – a few of our favourites include:

  • An all new launcher for opening your favorite apps and getting in touch with friends quicker and easier
  • Always-on apps that will display info and notifications, even with the screen backlight off. Smartwatch 3’s display shines brighter than the rest, particularly in sunlight  – so useful stuff is easily visible anywhere for longer, without burning too much power
  • Much like your Android smartphone, the new Android Wear update will bring pop up notifications (even when you’re looking at something else), meaning you’ll never miss anything important
  • New adjustable font sizes… will let you can see more or less of the text on-screen
  • Easier emojis, by drawing them directly on smartwatch 3’s display. You’ll be able to simply draw a smiley, symbol or pic with your finger and Android Wear will send back a corresponding emoji. It’ll also work if you’re pinging someone on their watch, phone, or laptop 🙂

Stay tuned for more, as we’ll share all the latest update news right here.
