We’ve all been there – glued to your seat at a sporting event, refusing to get up to grab a drink because the half’s about to end and something just might be about to happen…
Well, we recently launched a new trial featuring smartwatch 3 and Xperia Z Ultra, with software company ACCESS CO., LTD and The Yomiuri Shimbun (owner of the Yomiuri Giants, professional baseball team based in Tokyo, Japan) to end those sport and sustenance woes.
ACCESS provided its iBeacon-based contents distribution system “ACCESSTM Beacon Framework” enabling fans to order refreshments using Xperia Z Ultra – which alerts stewards wearing smartwatch 3 with their own Xperia Z Ultra via cloud, and allows them to deliver snacks and drinks straight to seats.
The result? Simple: no more missed home runs or wonder-catches, because of that busy bar queue.
The trials kicked off a few months ago and began rolling out to more games, to more fans across the stadium from May – and we’re just starting to use the data to better understand the types of experiences and beverage brands sports fans enjoy, according to time, season and stadium vantage point.
We are at a point in the development of technology where it is becoming practical (both technologically and economically) to take a big step forward in the usefulness of wearable devices – and this underpins our approach to wearable technology for both users and enterprise… even if it is enhancing spectator experience by simplifying the process of getting beer into hand that bit quicker.
