It’s hard to quantify how much the development of the smartphone camera has affected the world of photography. What differences has it made to how we create? How has it affected the images we produce?
One of the biggest changes is where, once, the photographer worked in a certain level of isolation, now via social media, the device you use to take your photos also connects you to the entire world. No longer alone, we’re constantly being inspired by and inspiring others as we create, collaborate and engage with a global community.
A beautiful image of steam rising off a cup of coffee in Paris could inspire another photographer to capture the steam encompassing a Manhattan taxi rank, leading someone else to photograph a Tuk-Tuk riding the busy streets of Mumbai.
With this in mind, we’re combining talented Instagrammers from all around the globe with an
Xperia smartphone to create a visual journey that captures the extraordinary, all created by the Xperia community.
Starting in London and travelling through the likes of Madrid and Dubai before finishing in the Philippines, the Sony Xperia is about to embark on its biggest global exploration – the Xperia Journey.
The concept? Simple. Every photographer captures a picture that has a link to the previous one posted. They will seek to interpret, evolve and continue the journey, snapping away and sharing on Twitter. Moments that cross linguistic boundaries will be at the fingertips of hundreds within just seconds, inspiring different cultures.
The journey is starting with Bobby Anwar and you can follow the whole adventure using #Xperia and #XperiaJourney.
