Android users were in for a tasty treat this week, as Google unveiled Android version 6.0; Marshmallow, the latest version of the Android mobile operating system. The best part is, it’s available not only on the new Z5 range, but also Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4*.Screen Shot 2015-10-02 at 11.15.33

But what are the best features?

For starters, Google has released Now on Tap – taking the chore of managing your privacy away.  Now on Tap aims to tie everything on your device together. All you have to do is tap and hold your device’s Home button from anywhere in the system, and Google Now pulls up a series of cards with info about whatever is on your screen. Clever, right?

App permissions are also an area where you can expect to see significant changes. You will now be able to choose whether to accept or deny individual permissions. Permissions will also be simplified and will now be requested the first time you try to use a feature. Great stuff!

Wanting to be in the midst of all the Marshmallow excitement, we decided to celebrate with something fun. This month, we’re rolling out Sony’s Concept for Android: Marshmallow edition. And the best part?  It’s open to a whopping 10,000 Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact users in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany.

Check out the “Concept Sign-up” app (available in applicable countries) to read full details, terms and conditions and register. Make sure you move quickly!

Sony announced some pretty exciting news this week as they acquired 3D vision technology specialist, Softkinetic. Bringing you a visual experience like no other, the software will allow Sony to track your gestures. Make sure you’re prepared for a whole new level of playing video games.

And for all you avid gamers, the fun doesn’t stop there.

Later this month, the Universal Media Remote for PS4 will be available in the U.S, Canada and Mexico.  Using Bluetooth to control PS4, the device can also be set up to control three additional features, whether it is your TV, cable box or audio receiver. Like DualShock 4 Wireless Controller, the remote also features the SHARE, OPTIONS, and PS buttons.

Keep your eyes peeled as they’ll fly out of stores.

Finally, in case you missed it –to support UNHCR, we’re launching a new Xperia theme that uses graphics and visualisations to highlight the importance of individual acts of kindness and generosity to those in need, at the same time offering a simple way of donating and supporting the refugees in Europe and around the world, via an accompanying app.

The XPERIA™ Support Refugees Theme is available to download from the Google Play Store – simply open the “Support Refugees” app within the theme and hit “Support” to donate. You can also find out more about UNHCR’s work with refugees on its website.

That’s it from us. If you can’t wait until next Friday to hear all of our exciting news, make sure you follow us on Twitter.

Have a lovely weekend!
