It’s unsurprising that Google I/O 2016 dominated the news this week, as the annual developer conference marks the biggest day in Google’s calendar. Held in California, the conference aims to bring a host of developers together for an “immersive, three day experience focused on exploring the next generation of technology, mobile and beyond.”

Google has been working tirelessly for the last year, and used the conference to showcase its latest and greatest. But there was also time for fun as the first-ever Google Play Awards were held. The event was aimed at recognising developers in different categories, based on metrics including innovation and app quality.

Amongst the winners were ‘Houzz’, an Interior Design app, that stole the title of ‘Best App’, Alphabear, a bear themed puzzle game that was awarded with ‘Best Standout Indie’ and Hopper,  a travel app that aims to save users money on their flights, received ‘Best Standout Startup’.  If you’ve already tried them out, let us know your thoughts!

It wasn’t just Google grabbing headlines this week either. As you probably already know, next week (May 28th) is the UEFA Champions League final and the game is set to be HUGE.  For the second time in UCL history, Real Madrid will take on Atletico Madrid in an all-Madrid final. To celebrate our sponsorship, we kicked things off with #ChampionsSofa highlights, as our Xperia fans recorded their highlights. And one thing’s for sure – we can’t wait to share the last in the series.

In the meantime, make sure you watch the trailer posted below.

We also shared some news of our own this week, with the announcement of Xperia XA Ultra – the brand new addition to our Xperia X Series. Our latest device has a 6” screen, 16MP front camera, low-light sensor, up to two days battery life* and a stylish thin design, with a borderless screen. Xperia XA Ultra White Group

Xperia XA Ultra is available in Graphite Black, White, or Lime Gold from July in selected markets (please check with you local operators and retailers for the latest on availability). A choice of stylish covers are also available to complement and protect Xperia XA Ultra, including Style Cover Flip which offers an auto on/off for the screen when opening and closing the case in corresponding colours.
