Google has unveiled AndroidTM 9 Pie*, meaning every XperiaTM owner will be wondering: when can I get my hands on it?
The good news is: you won’t have to wait too long to get the brand-new version of Android on your Xperia device**.
Our Premium-range models are expected to have the upgrade available from November, meaning owners of the Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Premium, XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1 and XZ1 Compact will be among the first to get their hands on the new tech.
Owners of XA2, XA2 Ultra and XA2 Plus devices can expect to access the upgrade early 2019.

What about xperia xa1 ultra. We can expect update to 9.0. This is 2017 phone. Two major update can be expected. If not sony shame!!!

If Sony doesn’t update Xperia Xzs to OREO 8.1 or Android 9.0 I will stop buying Sony phones definitely, Xperia Xzs has been updated only ones from Nougat to OREO and it’s terrible update with battery drain issues, overheating laggs and bugs, and more BUGS
14 years of Sony (Ericsson) fans. Never bought any other brands of phone.
Previous phone was Z3, didn’t get update to Nougat because Snapdragon. I was speechless but acceptable because is not Sony fault.
Currently own XZ, two of the only five units pre-ordered in my region. The biggest mistake to buy Sony again. Premium price with outdated spec. I have no argue with the spec, because i knew before i bought it. I paid for the design. But the phone is shitty lag, and lagger than my Z3, 4 years of product. I can’t play PUBG smoothly when the phone is WARM, i used “warm” not hot! While Z3 is still smooth even the phone is hot. I read a lot of solutions, and found the reason is Sony limits the thermal engine to 54 degree. How stupid is it. Idle could be 40-45 degree.
Secondly, i was offended Sony release an UPGRADED version XZs in less than 6 months. This move caused my XZ price dropped 50% in less than 1 year. We are your loyalty customers, we are paying premium price for your flagship, but you made your flagship become a sunkship. You didn’t honour your user but embarrassed them.
This is the main reason i didn’t buy your XZ2 this year. I rather wait another few months or a year to let it drop 50%. But being a fans, buying outdated phone with 50% still make me look stupid, because this price i can get some other brands with flagship level, and get more support from XDA. You should learn how Apple made their user feel proud to their products.
The only things made me feel proud was Sony became the first OEM other than Goole release update for XZ. But seem this story is end now.
I review my phone every 2years. For the first time, Sony is no longer at my top list.
Sony xperia xa1 plus no andriod updeta pie?
If sony told that XZs is a minor change of XZ and is not flagship, I will wait XZ Premium or later. Since at that time my Z battery gonna die and screen is broken. I thought that it’s time to change but for now i have my Z fixed and still use as second phone install shopping app, fitness app. So what would be my next phone? Since Sony leave XZs (1Y3M phone) with old android too soon.
The XZs will be my last Sony phone.Bye Sony 😉

We don’t need Sony-fication so you could save some time. Most of users I know prefer pure Android and Google apps like Contacts, Messages, Photos etc. So you’re wasting your time. Only exception is the Camera app but nothing more is needed, even the launcher could be stock Android.
I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised based on your track record. Always excellent hardware, but horrific software, support and pretty much everything else.
Hopefully LineageOS and other ROMs will be able to provide updates etc for people you’ve screwed.
Ive not been too lucky there though. I can’t even switch my Z4 tablet over to LineageOS because you won’t let me unlock the bootloader. Absolutely useless.

If you wonder why sony mobile has such s poor reputation, it’s because they treat customers with contempt and try and BS them with excuses like this lot. Either invest in mobile or judt give up, nobody is enjoying watching this sloe painful death (I say nobody, those clickbait idiots at AndroidPolice will be enjoying every moment of it)
Ok, I officially say good bye to you, Sony. And my last device with Sony will be the XZs. This phone advertised in the early of 2017 and on sale on mid-2017. And does have Snapdragon 820 – 4gb of RAM, which I believe is more than enough to run Android Pie. And it’s just over 1 year old. Know you know what it means “The most extreme haters are the disappointed fan”. Farewell!

Xperia XZ and XZs have already been upgraded a few times, no need to complain.
Also the 2 years support is more related to security updates and Sony is the faster since they provide an update each month.
Also remember that Sony doesn’t sell many phones worldwide so they don’t have time or money to pay developers to update older devices.
Remember that the most important is the usability and security. Android upgrades are not important, better to have a fully functional os than a truncated upgrade.

Why wouldnt they update XZ for example and make the AOSP for it??
Probably those phones in this text are just the first batch of phones to be updated.
I Expected SONY to Release Android 9 for the XPERIA XZ Series, But SONY did not do it, XPERIA XZ and XPERIA XZs both remain in their two-years support period and have good hardware and SONY Should Release Android 9 for them Because It’s not fair with XPERIA X their support is over and the same Android running with it. I chose XPERIA for Its good support and I expect SONY to do the same with the XZ Series when it comes to launching the Android 5.1.1 Z Series update.
Very weak. I own the XZs because the XZ Premium was too big and too expensive at the time, and the XZs was the next best option. First Sony is trying to build a reputation with regular updates, just to demolish it a few months later again. Dick move.

Compare XPERIA XZ Premium hardware and XPERIA XZs hardware. It is not Sony problem that you buy almost same device like XPERIA XZ during 2017

My phone is not 2 years old, an Xperia XZ (launch on october 2016) and won’t get Android Pie? Really? You just said earlier this year that every flagship within two years from it’s launch would be still receiving the latest updates. That’s disrespectful.

I hope for the VoLTE and VoWiFi in the firmwares. In Czech Republic is VoLTE supported by all of operators, but I can’t reach it. Cause my firmware has blocked VoLTE options.
XZ Premium Dual
The phone is same as Xperia XZ, only the camera and RAM was changed. If Sony optimise the Oreo, I will be happy with the support. There are still a lot of things to do in Oreo. Much better than receive Pie and end the support with not stable phone.

I’m the owner of XZs and I understand that we do not receive Android 9.0 On the other side, I hope that Sony add the Camera options from Xperia XZ Premium, because the camera is same. I miss the burst mode the most (and Timeshift Burst doesn’t work with Motion Eye camera).
Sorry, but 2017 flagship is XPERIA XZ1 together with XPERIA XZ Premium | XPERIA XZ1 Compact. XZs is technically almost same like two years old Sony XPERIA XZ

SD 820 is better processor than mid rage processor, (include mid rage devices XA2, XA2 ultra and XA2 Plus) ..why Sony? Only 1 years updates for Sony Xperia XZs?
